The sun was shining across the northern isles on Monday morning 🌅 in between poor weather, and we had another 4 Noss Boat tours with our expert skipper and pro naturalist Phil Harris. The early bird tour was in stunning light! #seabirdsofinstagram #gannets #nossboat #thenossboat #shetland

Incredible start to our fundraiser! Why 16km? Because we need Section 16 of the Wildlife and Countryside Act to be amended to ensure the Guga hunt is ended forever!

NatureScot has recommended refusing this year's application to licence the traditional guga hunt on Sula Sgeir, citing uncertainty over the recovery of the island's internationally important Northern Gannet colony following the bird flu outbreak: f.mtr.cool/rvkpokvxzl

The palaeontologist Mary Anning was born on this day 227 years ago! In our Fossil Marine Reptiles Gallery, you’ll find some of Mary Anning's spectacular finds, including her ichthyosaur, plesiosaur and pterosaur. Much like they did two centuries ago, her discoveries continue to intrigue us today.🦴

A stunning male Bluethroat photographed at Sumburgh, glowing cobalt blue throat, chestnut flanks, and full of character in the spring light and fog. A brilliant migrant to encounter in Shetland. #migrantbirds #bluethroat #shetland #birdingshetland

@rachelburden.bsky.social I just thought I would share this photo I took last week up in the Shetland Islands. The Gannets nests are made almost exclusively of plastic. And if you look you will see one of them is caught up and hanging dead from the nest. So sad 😞

Eye-browed Thrush - Yell. Wasn’t expecting this belter of a thrush on my way to change over our self catering Solan House on Unst today. Found earlier by Christian Melgar and found out in the open for us with minutes to spare by Adrian Kettle. Only our second for Shetland after Phil’s bird in 2020.
