In Skagen (Denmark) Peder Severin Krøyer focused on the landscape, local life, and community festivities. He was also captivated by the ‘blue hour’ and the effects of moonlight on Skagen beach or as here (1885) from the moors just north of the then village.

'Gurnards Head.' (1947) Wilhelmina Barns-Graham was a small but vital component of the St Ives school, arriving in Cornwall in 1940 just as Ben Nicholson, Naum Gabo and Barbara Hepworth were transforming the small fishing town into an unlikely hot-bed of British modernism.

Early morning light at Bamburgh No colourful sunrise as there was cloud on the horizon. However, I waited around for the sun to rise enough to light up the scene. #landscape #LandscapePhotography #eck #seascape #Northumberland #sunrise
A castle stands on a hill behind a sandy beach. The sun is rising to the left of the frame. This combined with a haze from a rough sea creates a golden hue on that side of the photo. In the foreground waves rush across the sand towards the photographer's feet.
