Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I watched a YouTube video yesterday that implied that to get a pension in the US you have to be working at your retirement date, otherwise you get nothing. Can this be true? In the UK, your occupational pension is built up for your benefit. 001
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone in the UK use the word sconce. 200
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Maybe the multi-camera, lots-of-things-happening-at-once thing needs a big crew? 200
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It’s ever so well done. I got hooked halfway through the first celebrity series. 010

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Alan Davies’ show was alternately hilarious and sad, with some quite long sections of serious material about when he was abused as a child. It was nice to see it in a (stunning) venue near where he grew up (Chingford). 000

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Travelling Cambridge to Liverpool Street via Stansted Airport gave me the opportunity to enjoy my custard bougatsa from Mill Road. Delicious. Now I’m off to see TV’s Alan Davies at the Walthamstow Granada. 010
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026My sack is bulging with a bumper set of finds in the chazzas in Cambridge. Nice to see all the stores around the Grafton Centre are still open, when the mall itself is almost totally bereft of retail. 010
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026This is frozen cook-at-home. I don’t regularly use Pret, despite it being the nearest food place to my office. 100
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Sounds like your diverter valve has ceased up / sheared off. Said as someone who is not an expert but had that problem with his old gas boiler. 100

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Have you made up statistics to suit your view? Do you hold outlandish views that no civilised government would ever implement? If so, the Nick Ferrari breakfast show would love to hear from you. #LBC 010

From a philosophical & ethical standpoint, his lies result in death becoming a form of intolerance. They morphed from standard misinformation into a deliberate assault on the foundational structures of a safe, rational society. 041

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 04/09/2026In fact, I don’t even really know how much energy I use as some is used as it’s generated and some is arbitrage. But I’d still recommend a heat pump and bigger rads even if you’re keeping gas / oil for now. 000
Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 04/09/2026Since switching from gas heating to an air source heat pump, my total household energy use (both gas and electric until middle of 2025) has come way down. And I’ve been heating more of the house in 2026 than 2025. But solar panels and battery distort the picture a bit. 100

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 04/09/2026My local high end restaurant will deliver me fish and chips for less than the actual chippy. Here’s a photo of last week’s order from there. I was impressed by the flavour and lack of greasiness (and my regular chippy is no slouch). 110

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 31/08/2026There needs to be a shop with tat to browse, dispose of items it’s not viable to sell, get repairs, recycle. If there’s not enough money in it for a charity to help others, have a self-sustaining business for that purpose. I’ve been in charity shops that exist to support the shop only. 000

Steve @pubby79.bsky.social · 29/08/2026Switching my new EE broadband router to WPA3-Personal stops my iPhone connecting because of frequency clashes. Using WPA3-Transitional works fine. I guess the security doesn’t affect the channels in use but makes the iPhone more sensitive. iPhone is my newest device (16 Pro Max) so most sensitive. 000
