To whom it may concern, Having considered the sorts of behaviors (and sorts of beliefs) that constitute “being normal” in our present society, I have concluded that it’s not a bad thing to be deemed abnormal.

✨GIVEAWAY✨ for an advance copy of MONSTERA. Like and reskeet this post, then tell me how many points you have: 10- preordered Monstera 9- chose it for book club 8- added it on Goodreads or Storygraph 7- requested at the library 6- joined the preorder swag giveaway 5- added to TBR 4- heard of it
This is an image of the book Monstera against a chartreuse background with flowers. Monstera has a bloodied hand holding a gardening tool, also bloodied, amidst a handful of greenery. I really can't stress enough how much blood, hands, and plants are involved. Like, A LOT.

I confess, it used to be when I would hear it said that this is the best time to be alive I would feel skeptical, but these days when I hear it said that this is the best time to be alive I feel like they’re saying that the future will be even worse than this.

Someone told me we just have to hold on until November. And someone told me we just have to hold on until 2028. And someone told me we just have to hold on until the revolution. And someone told me we just have to hold on to each other.

Oh nice! I gave in to the temptation of the 5 shades of purple set I found in the back to school stuff. So far I've tried 3 of the 5 and they are great.

I'm told it's black cat appreciation day? My bestest bebe Thelma is always up for being told how pretty she is.
A small black cat lies facing the camera on brown mulch in dappled sunlight next to a tree trunk. Behind her is a green wall of milkweed plants. Her head is up, looking at the camera with her permanently dilated eyes. This angle also shows off part of her collar and the jingle bell on it.

I like big bees and I cannot lie!
A large carpenter bee getting pollen from the top bloom of a showy milkweed. The shiny black abdomen of the bee is reflecting sunlight and the milkweed flowers are orange and red. The sky behind is a lovely blue with wisps of white cloud.A large carpenter bee gets pollen from a purple salvia flower. We can see the bee from the top/side, so both wings are visible along with the shiny abdomen and fuzzy yellow thorax. Most of the photo is green salvia leaves, some in focus and some not. In the background are blurry yellow orange lantana flowers.

Yay it rained heavily and got a lot of the smoke particles out of the air! Boo poor Thelma was sleeping under the giant lilac shrub when it rained.
A very very soggy small black cat is seen standing on a brick walkway. The fur all along her top is totally slicked down by water. While she is facing the camera, her head is lowered so we cannot see her eyes. Beside her are some sunbeckia flowers and greenery, also somewhat bedraggled due to the heavy rain we just received.

I adopted a little dude and I love him. Thanks @oddoblivion.bsky.social !
A photo of a creepy little ceramic bust held on a white hand over a wooden floor. The bust is a skull glazed greenish and has worms coming out of the mouth. You can somewhat see there's a spot at the top rear of the skull where even more worms are coming out.The creepy little wormy skull is now being held in front of a painting. The painting is mostly red background with a screaming skull centered and thick chunky plants (many green leaves and pale blue flowers) are on the sides.

Alongside a video of a man in a headstand pose, the WHO recommended doing yoga to stay grounded, and while I know it seems that the world has turned upside down, I regret to inform you, that turning yourself upside down does not turn the world right side up.

A friend called to see if I had plans in case I lose power, so I told her I lost any power I had a long time ago and ever since I’ve been running on anger, fear, and hope, to which she responded she meant losing power in the storm, so I said: I also have a flashlight.

When you see the story about how the world now has its first trillionaire, and when you see the story about how laboratories in Congo have run out of supplies to test for Ebola, it is important to understand that in many ways these are the same story.

Making new friends at the greenhouse again. This lovely black swallowtail was sitting on our wisteria but was willing to hang out in my thumb for several minutes. 🥰
Close up side view of a black swallowtail butterfly sitting on a thumb. The top of the butterfly wing is black; the lower part is black inside with orange spots then yellow spots at the edges. The abdomen and part of the lower wing are iridescent blue. Also the nail polish on the thumb is iridescent blue.

Cat break! Last fall a scrawny young tabby showed up at the greenhouse and informed us it was her home now. Now she lives her best life eating all the food and getting all the pets.
A fluffy and somewhat chunky long hair brown tabby cat with white socks on all four paws plus a white belly sprawls luxuriously on her side on an industrial floormat. If you look closely at her feet you can see the fluff between the toe beans. We don't have a good angle to see her eyes but I promise they are a piercing green. The mat needs swept or vacuumed but the laminate flooring is actually mostly clean.A fluffy and kinda chunky long hair brown tabby is sitting on a dark countertop in a greenhouse. She is side-on to the camera but has her head facing it, which lets us see the white bib on her neck and most of her four white socks. She has magnificent long white whiskers and some long ear hairs but no ear tufts. The white bib extends up her neck and chin clear to just under her nose. Her eyes are brilliant green with the pupils contracted. If you zoom in you can see a squiggly line of amber ringing the outer edge of the pupils. Her expression is somewhat disdainful.

Behind her stretch rows of tropical plants on tables and hanging in baskets, standing out brightly in shades of green against the translucent white of the greenhouse plastic roof. The metal supports and frame for the ventilation are visible at the top. A black mesh shade cloth is stretched above the plants.

We actually opened last month but here's some pics of my happy place, the greenhouse. Naturally featuring bestest bebe Thelma.
A small black cat in airplane ear mode is looking at the camera to say why are you not still petting me!? She looks more brown in the bright sunlight and there are some very large plants behind her, including a huge monstera Thai constellation. The cat's eyes are dilated, she's been like this for years but it doesn't slow her down much. There are some lovely long whiskers standing out against her fur as well.A small black cat who turns out to have a white splotch on her belly (and white lines at her armpits) is lying on her back on the brick floor of a greenhouse. She is looking up at you with her permanently dilated eyes. I believe the translation of this body language is something like "look how cute I am, time for my third breakfast, right??"A close up of a single flower petal from a Japanese Pansy on a black background. The petal is yellow at the edges with a purple center and purple veins where the colors meet. It is very ruffly at the top/outer edge (these pansy flowers are almost ball shaped because they are so ruffled). The top right edge is a more lavender shade while the center of the petal is royal purple.

This is probably my last Sunday in the greenhouse for the season, but I'm getting some quality time with my girl Thelma.
A small mostly black cat is shown mid roll as she tries to catch a fuzzy toy on a stick. She is on her back, exposing a white belly. The string for the toy is caught on her back toes and her front feet are claws out straining for the bright orange worm shaped toy. Her head is up so she can try to bite the toy but that's not happening yet.

Another Sunday in the greenhouse with my bestest bebe Thelma.
A smallish black cat reclines on a table. She has white fur at her lower belly and is looking at the camera with disdain. (The disdain is due to me pausing the petting in order to take the photo.)

We spotted a lovely black swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) warming up on a mum this morning.
A mostly black butterfly with yellow spots along the trailing edge of it's wings sits on a yellow-blooming mum. The butterfly is sipping from a flower. Two blue spots are also visible at the back edge of the wings.A view of the black swallowtail butterfly from above and behind, showing the spots better. This butterfly's wings are mostly black, with two rows of yellow spots along the trailing edges, plus blue along the lower wings. The eye spots are barely visible where the lower wings meet. The butterfly is sitting on a yellow mum.
