*spins chair around* "you know who else believes that accumulating wealth is inherently immoral?"
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-New York) doesn’t just think there should be no billionaires. She believes accumulating that much wealth is inherently immoral, probably criminal and definitely illegitimate.

Let it be known that I helped serve the communion cup at a seminary chapel service to a bunch of Anglicans (and other high church folks) yesterday. Brb, putting this on my CV.

Single-elimination games in hockey are such heartbreaks. Go Canada but maaaaaaan these games are wild. So much on the line in one game, which breaks down to one or two major moments. #MilanoCortina #Olympics #Canada

My fave thing in class is when profs say they don't know something, and you can tell it's not a lazy "I don't know" but in a real, "I really have wrestled with this all my life, and here are some of the perspectives and my takes, but ultimately we are working with something difficult," kinda way.

Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope. Yes, THAT Pope.
The logic of algorithms tends to repeat what “works,” but art opens up what is possible. Not everything has to be immediate or predictable. Defend slowness when it serves a purpose, silence when it speaks and difference when evocative. Beauty is not just a means of escape; it is above all an invocation. When cinema is authentic, it does not merely console, but challenges. It articulates the questions that dwell within us, and sometimes, even provokes tears that we did not know we needed to express.

Our social inability to get rid of things that are manifestly bad and harmful - not “on balance” but absolutely- (like sports betting, AI slop, etc) is either a triumph of liberalism or a sign of our inexcusable fecklessness and decadence. Or both?

The more I grow, the more I realize how important the "Nick Lidstrom Wisdom" is: You gotta know when to finish and/or walk away, & you gotta know how to do so with grace/humility. It's a good thing to step down when you're the hero & still have something left. Walk away leaving them wanting a bit.

Evangelicals love to go on Twitter and casually assert something that if written in
500 AD would've led to two Church Councils, a dozen dueling encyclicals, a major schism, three new heresies, and a religious war that lasted for centuries and cost hundreds of thousands of lives.

One of the things that the surveillance economy forms us to believe is that every minute of our working day must be visibly and quantifiably productive. But as I’ve been reflecting on the life of the scholar over the last few years, that just simply isn’t the case.
