One thing about it, you must have a growth mindset to be an expat bc living in a place day-to-day vs. spending 5 days vacation are very different things. You're not going to *any* of these countries and turning them into a mini-USA. YOU will adjust or you'll leave lol

I already live where I want to in the US. Outside the US: -Mexico (I already have legal residency there.) -Portugal -Croatia I would do extended stays in other countries listed in the quotes, but I would not live in them long term. Vacation cities do not a home make, so to speak.

I am a strong proponent of travel, but that means also being clear about the fact that anti-Blackness is G L O B A L. *Never* disregard the context of local Black ppl in any country you visit. We say that about the US and it's true in every other country too.

Yeah, I think a lot of us don't realize when we travel, people *know* we're Americans. So even without seeing the passport, "Passport Privilege" kicks in to our benefit and the things that local Black ppl experience don't happen to tourist Black Americans [as much].

I once made a quick trip to Québec on Labor Day. Didn’t realize Canada celebrates it at the same time the US does. I had planned to go to a credit union to get cash and exchange money. They were closed. That was my first lesson to check for holidays before planning a trip. #BlackskyTravel

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users. While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.

So although I wouldnt say Paris is overrated, I will say it has a distinctive feel and bc of that, you will either love it or leave it. I think I also feel that way about London. I like places that make me feel warm. Paris didn't do that. I liked the robust transit, cafes, and interesting architecture. The romance of the city was lost on me, but that could've been timing. But I didnt immediately love Paris the way I did Lisbon, Porto, or even Amsterdam. #BlackskyTravel

I didn't spend much time in Paris. I need to go back for a week to give a more comprehensive perspective, but I would say it has a specific charm. And if that type of charm isn't high up on your list (which for me, it isn't), then you might feel ppl give it too much.
