The thing with enshitification is sometimes it’s just little things you barely notice. I thought I was going nuts when I noticed little issues with Google Maps lately. Then on a road trip this week I definitely was able to track how many times it lost my position, told me to turn the wrong way, etc

I mean you are right about the discrimination against women of course, but i suspect the first thing here is how the ivys operate.

For sure. Love that you waded in to dismiss my comment and then act frustrated. Very cool.

Harvard, Yale, and Princeton don’t tenure anybody. It’s literally their thing.

Not at all higher education in America. This is Ivy League stuff. There are a handful of schools that operate like Princeton. It is a wild exception, not at all indicative of the rest.

So to understand patriarchy we don’t need to study the past? Because in so far as I had an argument (and I really didn’t until you got rolling here), that was it.

Miguel Gómez @prplmnkydw.bsky.social · 09/10/2026
You said the past was irrelevant because no one wants to reinstate manorialism.

This is a nothing burger I suspect. There are lots of bad things, keep focused on those. The chaff distracts.

I’m not sure that fear of history repeating or going backward is the only reason one might study the past!

I mean sure, but lots of agricultural societies also developed a pretty clear set of gender roles that led to men working in the fields or herding or whatever and women caring for children and the elderly close to home.

A strong statement, and in the days of resurgent fascism, there’s probably. Competition for biggest disaster, but also this is right and the China comparison is interesting.

It's insane how many ppl even entertain the idea of data fabrication as being good for research.

I like this and it’s right. Also, our university’s president ran around saying “we are going to do less with less” for years, it was his unofficial motto. Also top notch inspirational leadership!

This is funny but also truly I think there's a huge number of people who've developed such a serious dependency and driven off such a serious cognitive cliff that I don't think they could get through a normal workday

I mean you asked for concrete examples of negative impact. The cultural thing is a different issue, but also a real one. Like all tools, AI is built by specific people using specific materials. If someone else built it, it would look different.

The humanities have been calling out genAI theft since the jump, while STEM has rallied around “discovery potential”. I am *ONCE AGAIN* reminding EVERYONE that science is not the sacred cow, STEM isn’t the exception. They are going to steal our IP, too. We aren’t special.

Sorry, didn’t see this. I did not find it to be useful. It is not, in my experience, reliable for translating, it cannot produce a bibliography following a consistent style without lots of corrections, and it can’t really do good copy editing.
