🚨NEW: A horror story emerges from hacked flight logs of the March 15 flight to El Salvador: mass disappearances. It's possible there are DOZENS of additional people the Trump admin sent to be imprisoned in El Salvador without trial who are imprisoned there whose names have never been disclosed.
The flight manifests for three legally contested deportation flights from Texas to El Salvador contain dozens of additional, unaccounted for passengers than a previously published Department of Homeland Security (DHS) list of people deported from the United States on those flights, 404 Media has learned. The additional people on the flight manifest have not been publicly acknowledged by the U.S. government in any way, and immigration experts who have been closely monitoring Trump’s deportation campaign say they have no idea where these people are or what happened to them. 404 Media is now publishing the names of these people.

The prime minister "condemns the phrase "police violence"" as the police attacks young people violently across France It's a wonder why so many people, young or not, feel such a disconnect with those who govern them... The issue is not "populism" or "polarisation", it's mainstream authoritarianism

State violence, however, is one side of this conflict. On the other side we have solidarity, the formation of new relations and communities, the development of new means of struggle. Because in contrast to the existing political economy, it is we who do not have an alternative. 19/End

People are taking to the streets in France and Spain (today) and elsewhere (tomorrow)for the same reasons and against the same conditions. And everywhere they are getting the same response: neither the causes nor the consequences of the visible worsening of overall conditions are negotiable 17/

The question of a collapsing education system is a direct consequence of decisions based on labour market forecasts, the constantly evoked boogeyman of public debt - which always tends to disappear when re-armament and preparing for war is discussed - and "balanced budgets". 16/

Affordable housing is made impossible because of its link to commodification and financialization, processes too familiar for anyone paying attention to the modern world and by no means confined to Spain. 15/

But none of the current movements confine themselves to these topics. Because none of these topics are separate from the overall malaise and lack of future that affects everyone, everywhere. 14/

The kids in France are in the streets because the education system is collapsing, especially in those parts deemed “too proletarian to give a f**k”. 13/

Pavlos Roufos @proufos.bsky.social · 12h
The movement in Spain was triggered by the entirely justified demand for decent and affordable housing for all and the refusal to stay quiet and simply accept the “laws of the market”. 12/

This follows from a growing realisation (perhaps on all sides) that there is no more space for any politics of integration, for reforms that can calm social conflict, for mediation. 11/

What is now becoming more apparent, in France, Spain or anywhere else, is that this is now the expected response of the state, *no matter who governs*. 10/

[Note: bravely fought back and neutralised, fascist attempts to attack the encampments in different parts of Spain do nonetheless indicate a more unhinged attitude from these cosplaying Stormtroopers] 9/

It would not even suffice to point at the full normalisation of fascist/far-right forces and discourse and the spreading of authoritarianism which today sits in government in many more countries than it did in 2023. 8/

.. or even to say that this process has been accelerated. (More than 5k young people have been arrested in France in the last days, which is roughly half the amount arrested *during a whole year* of Gilet Jaunes). And already we have protestors mutilated and losing their eyesight. 7/

Watching the scenes from France and Spain today, it is *not enough* to say that nothing has changed.. 6/

… contemporary justifications appear as even more sinister and hypocritical, given that *there is no equivalent threat* and contemporary protestors never use equivalent forms of violence. 5/

Yet, if liberal support for authoritarianism in the interwar period was based on a real or imagined existential threat emanating from a massive workers’ movement willing to use violence.. 4/

The gist of that thread was that conservative/liberal support for authoritarianism (as, for example, in the form of insane police brutality with full impunity) had a long historical background - one that continues to guide contemporary approaches. 3/

The trigger behind that thread was the truly unbelievable level of police and judicial violence in France at the time. It felt like adding a historical grounding to this was relevant. 2/

Anthropic inviting religious representatives and asking them to give their thoughts on whether AI/the machine is “someone” with emotions/morality seems rather appropriate. Religion has always constructed moral principles on behalf of non-existing entities.

Unavoidably, I think, it’s a mix of chronology (eg Weimar, WW2, postwar etc) and topic (neoliberalism, new deal, Bretton woods etc). Prominent shelves for Marx, the SI and other friends, naturally. Lack of space means literature and poetry are stacked on the piano.

Re-arranging one’s library is a slow and really enjoyable process. What makes it even slower is the re-discovery of some book, acquired long ago and placed in a random spot, which invites a coffee & cigarette break..

The mainstreaming of fascist tropes in France reached the point where a RN MP finds it ok to defend Bardella by saying: Who remembers what they said to their friends at 17, when you might crack a joke to amuse the crowd? Who never drew a swastika with their compass in high school or at university?"
