Followed by @benbraun.social asking the question of what happened to the promises of “universal ownership” of asset management capitalism (hint: they died).

Whether the AfD will materialize its program is beyond the question. The real point is that it is not incompatible with the existing EU, something that liberal voices have pretended not to hear - tied in the mast of normative liberalism but in reality too easily seduced by the far right.

State violence, however, is one side of this conflict. On the other side we have solidarity, the formation of new relations and communities, the development of new means of struggle. Because in contrast to the existing political economy, it is we who do not have an alternative. 19/End

[Note: bravely fought back and neutralised, fascist attempts to attack the encampments in different parts of Spain do nonetheless indicate a more unhinged attitude from these cosplaying Stormtroopers] 9/

… contemporary justifications appear as even more sinister and hypocritical, given that *there is no equivalent threat* and contemporary protestors never use equivalent forms of violence. 5/

Yet, if liberal support for authoritarianism in the interwar period was based on a real or imagined existential threat emanating from a massive workers’ movement willing to use violence.. 4/

The gist of that thread was that conservative/liberal support for authoritarianism (as, for example, in the form of insane police brutality with full impunity) had a long historical background - one that continues to guide contemporary approaches. 3/

The trigger behind that thread was the truly unbelievable level of police and judicial violence in France at the time. It felt like adding a historical grounding to this was relevant. 2/

Re-arranging one’s library is a slow and really enjoyable process. What makes it even slower is the re-discovery of some book, acquired long ago and placed in a random spot, which invites a coffee & cigarette break..

110 years ago, in September 1916, tanks were used for the very first time. Ranging from July until November, the battle of Somme cost more than 150.000 lives (130.000 on the German side, only in September). Despite this, no real strategic objective was achieved. The front advanced by 2.3km.

State minister of the interior for the CDU in Saxony called the victory of the left in Berlin “a slap in the face of honest/righteous citizens” because apparently the left doesnt take a clear stand against “criminal gangs, antisemites and left extremists.”

The fact that nothing is so bad that it could not get worse is not an excuse for defending the existing world, people tend to forget that.

All wars are based on false reports. They are meant to disguise the reality of economic interests and power-hungry idiocy, under the veil of some “noble” cause meant to mobilize *others* to die for it. If AI starts a war it will because some misanthropic morons gave it the power to decide.

Éden Teatro, inaugurated in 1914. A symbol of Art Deco at the time, it has become a symbol of what Lisbon is meant to promote today: an apartment hotel. While the facade remains unchanged, the interior of the building - and its history - have been gutted.

Despite various forms of unconvincing denial, the contemporary liberal mainstream seems fully committed to constantly proving the thesis that their role today is to normalize the far-right in all its expressions.

When two versions of nationalism (in this case Milei and Peronism) fight it out, it’s a law of nature that the most stupid one wins.

On the left, a UK Labour government responds to a fascist demo. Next, the far-right's march through EU institutions. The Greek 'centrist' government is waging an 'anti-woke' campaign against school books. Meanwhile, everyone is puzzled as to why the AfD did well in a historically far-right region.

The metaphor of sleepwalking into a war has been overused but it is often hard to escape the fact that the European political, journalist and business class is united under the promise of sending all of us and our kids to die in some trench.

Particularly important, and not in slightest coincidental, is the recurrent mention in the article of the case of Greece where, in addition to what @profpech.bsky.social mentions here, we also had the EU Parliament damning resolution of February 2024. eur-lex.europa.eu/eli/C/2024/6...

Last year, I began creating a data set of all the existing reports with the intention of sorting out such issues. Among the first problems I had was an inability to get a clear idea about continuity/change in relation to so-called 'follow ups', as the language used is consistently ... euphemistic.

Well, we are actually supposed to accept such statements because today’s Russians are meant to be the same as the Germans of that time. (And Marx said a lot of different things about Russia, no?)
