Only exception is maybe younger pre-transition version of trans characters, like OITNB lucked out big time that Laverne Cox happens to have an identical twin brother, so using him for the pre-transition flashback was perfect!

I know this is a joke but I recently learned the real reason is from a Samurai tradition of announcing your name and information about the lord you serve I think to your opponent before battle so the winner could claim their reward from their own lord after the battle which I think is really cool!
