The fact that debate can performed competitively without the truth being relevant proves that debate is not a means to arrive at a truth. Being persuasive exists independently of what is actually true or right.

Casey Jones is the only 100% white main Human character in Mirage's TMNT run. April was modeled after April Fisher, a light skinned biracial Black woman - Kevin Eastman's then-girlfriend now-wife. Baxter Stockman is Black. Shredder, Mirai, and the Foot are Japanese. Shadow Jones is Latina.

It wasn't great that in Star Trek TOS the Klingons were white actors in brown makeup. So in TNG they hired a Black man to play the main Klingon. Then every other Klingon was a white actor in brown makeup.

Saw a trans person object to being called "vulnerable", asserting that they could defend themself from violent attack. The rallying cry isn't "We should be capable of using violence to defend ourselves." The rallying cry is "We shouldn't have anything against which we are defending ourselves."

Someone on Reddit offended at renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America, because the lake is "named after the indigenous Ontario people". There is no nation called Ontario. In the Kanienʼkeha language, "ontiari'iyo" means "beautiful lake". Renaming it is offensive, but learn why.

It's weird how few people realize Itchy and Scratchy from the Simpsons - including recent Simpsons writers - that they were not meant to be earnestly entertaining. They were critiques of mindless violence on TV without stories or themes. They were supposed to upset and repulse you.

Any cover for the novel Lolita which makes Dolores seem sexual or attractive is missing the point of the book entirely.

I love Cowboy Bebop, but it being set in 2071 is WILD WORK. It was made in 1998. That's 73 years, a little less than a single generous Human lifetime. Yet the cities and infrastructure on other worlds seem HUNDREDS of years old! It doesn't look like everyone just arrived.

Lessons we learn from Stranger Things's generational downfall. 1) If no main character ever dies, there is no reason to believe there is actual danger. 2) Anchoring your entire universe to a small group of characters makes the world feel small. 3) Your villain should be a psychological threat.

I anticipate Gremlins 3 will flop. The first two were biting satire of the mix of horror and children's media, which was contemporary at the time. In our current media landscape, a third film can only trade in nostalgia. There's nothing new to say on the topic.

Complaining that the new Resident Evil movie doesn't feature stuff from the games is deeply unserious. RE 2, RE 0, and RE 7 all star new characters. Of all the games, one RE 2 and RE 3 take place in the same location. Introducing new characters and settings is really really normal for RE.

The worst way to adapt a video game is to feel like your medium - cinema - is inherently superior, and that the story needs to be "fixed". Zack Cregger's take on Resident Evil is perfect. Tell an inherently cinematic story which takes place in the same universe, but doesn't overlap.
