If you live in the south, you know that there are many, many leaders who sound like Collins that lead school boards, classrooms, city councils, churches, athletic programs, and police units. And they serve for very long amounts of time. So, yeah, he lost the debate but has he lost the confederacy?

That's the scary part...finding out the devastation after the fact. And yes it is part of the plan but it is still scary.

Be very careful when tech owners who trained their LLMs in the most undemocratic and least agentic ways start marketing the words 'democratize' and 'agency". That is an indication that all attempts at both democracy and agency have already ended.

I introduced my kids to Sound of Music. They were reluctant. I said let's just watch the first 20 minutes and if you don't like it, we'll find something else. When I paused the film at 20 minutes, they all screamed, "keep playing, keep playing." That is the Julie Andrews generational impact at play.

For me as a mom and an academic, that's public education and higher ed. With aging parents, thats medicaid and health care. For everyday, its gas and groceries. It is still a lot to think about but if somehow we can share notes with one another, we can target issues with more social force. Perhaps?

It's hard to pay attention when there is so much to pay attention to. Yes, I know this is part of the plan but helping people figure out how to pay attention is critical work. I have been advising others to focus on the areas directly impacting you and your expertise...

People will make you sign a NDA to be a part of their research team and turn around and feed their private research data into public LLMs and be shocked at the consequences. Make it make sense.

In an environment where it is easier to defend wrong choices rather than choose different ones, we have to hope people will do just that during election season...and that makes me nervous...the algorithm may say one thing but people stubbornly like to force their previous choices to be right. This is eugenics

Emily Hilliard, a spokeswoman for the Department of Health and Human Services, confirmed on Wednesday that the department had not yet made a decision about whether to provide the shots through that program.
Vaccines for Children provides free shots to children who are uninsured, underinsured or eligible for Medicaid, as well as to American Indian and Alaska Native children.
Pediatric doses are available for children who have insurance, or whose parents can afford to pay for vaccines out of pocket.

Watching Angel Reese be a mega cheerleader for team USA shows the type of teammate she is. She just wants to win whether she's out there or not. That is a coach's dream to have a great player who cheers for others to be great. But someone will find a way to criticize even that.

We need to talk about Oprah and her podcast and the way she has been forced back into her "4pm slot" to speak to women in a safe and supportive way because the media networks have been bought off and refuse to discuss our issues. Coincidentally the podcast began in 2024.

I asked students to bring a notebook for journaling. We started this week. To see their hands shoot up to share their own thoughts has been delightful. A few have struggled to write anything and that's okay too. We all learn to think and write better when we are in conversation with each other.

The ways in which this fed government has swiftly ushered to the front rows of our screens- the racists, abusers, sexists, pedophiles, and narcissists. Repetitively sending the message of hate, discontempt, greed, and pride. The emotional weight of this is taxing. Be kind to yourself. They won't be.

The Odyssey is a story that is 3000 years old-a time of life before race. We forget racial categories developed in concert with US slavery. Greece, Sparta, Africa were virtually interwoven via trade routes as the movie rightly portrayed. If anything more dark humans neede to be portrayed. Not less.
