Trump posting an image of penguins in Greenland is straight out of @theonion.com's article about the death of Encyclopedia Brown
Because of the long-standing mutual enmity between Meany and Brown, Meany was named among the suspects in The Case Of Encyclopedia Brown’s Mangled Corpse. Meany denied the allegations.

“It’s true that Detective Brown and I didn’t see eye to eye, but I would never do something so downright dirty rotten as murder him,” Meany said. “Besides, it’s a matter of public record that, at the time the crime was committed, I was at the North Pole watching the penguins.”

David Colton is a perfectly fine and interesting character, but I don't really care about him. MM was compelling because he was an ordinary schlub who discovered in middle-age that he used to be a SOUP-arrearo and that discovery first shattered his marriage and then the entire world

MURDER BY DEATH features Peter Sellers reprising his racist Chinese character stereotype from BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S which is... not good. But it also has Peter Falk playing a Humphrey Bogart-type, which is *amazingly* good

If you begin with the premise that there is a vast conspiracy of satanists who force children to have sex with animals, then it OF COURSE makes sense to eliminate the bestiality exclusion from FBI recruits. Honestly, everyone should really read @swordsjew.bsky.social's book WILD FAITH

@doktorzoom.bsky.social I hate to be a math pedant, but then again it is literally my job to be one, so: The issue here is not that they "didn't change the denominator". They *did* change the denominator (from 827 to 127). The problem is that did not also change the *numerator* at the same time

More or less the same plot in "Answer This!" (2011). Grad student gets offered a tenure track job in his own department before he even finishes his dissertation because his dad is a big-shot professor who's retiring and wants to hand down "his job" to his son.

Update on "the wisdom of crowds". Those sudden jumps up and down -- those are basically caused by one person placing a relatively large bet in a relatively small market, right?

Genuinely curious: do you think that *any* of the sentences in the image below mean the same thing as "Platner should drop out"? If so, which ones do, and what is the difference between the ones that do and the ones that don't?
A.	“Platner should not be on the ballot.”
B.	“An accused rapist should not be on the ballot.”
C.	“Voters should not have to choose between an accused rapist and a corporate shill.”
D.	“Voters in Maine deserve a choice for US Senate that doesn’t force them to make a moral compromise between sexual violence or corporate servitude.”

I really wanted this riff to just keep going on and on, in the style of the Dozens
Specifically, the water is more or less the color of a sour apple Jolly Rancher now. It looks like they're brewing Yodas in there. It is so uncannily green and visibly slimy that it feels inevitable that video will soon surface of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. splashing around in it with jeans on. It looks like the aftermath of Boston Tea Party-style political action involving matcha. Parks service employees have been busy dredging and raking algae from the bottom; on Tuesday, they were seen dumping jugs of 12 percent hydrogen peroxide solution into the pool. Per a coworker who was at the reflecting pool earlier today, the water still remains the color of Slimer, from Ghostbusters. In a statement, the White House blamed "residual algae" in the pipes for the fact that the reflecting pool is currently the color of lime Jell-O, adding "President Donald J. Trump is an expert builder who has fixed the Reflecting Pool for good unlike the failed and extremely costly attempt by Obama and Biden."

@evanhurst.substack.com I'm a big fan but can I maybe suggest you try to learn a little bit about intra-Jewish distinctions before you write bullshit like this? "Orthodox Jews" are a very heterogeneous group, both in the US and Israel, & the far right has plenty of non-religious useful idiots too

Eisner was incredibly generous with his time and had a *lot* to say, not only about the Jewish roots of the superhero concept, but also about how the superhero's secret identity reflected the creator's experience of "passing".
"The superhero has his origins in the folk hero. He represents an attempt to deal with forces that are considered otherwise undefeatable, and that ties in somehow with the n'shama of the Jewish people. Although we may have thought we were creating Aryan characters, with non-Jewish names like Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent and my own Denny Colt, I think we were responding to an inner n'shama that responds to forces around us - just like the story of the golem in Jewish lore."

Here is Will Eisner on Joe and Jack's creation:
"If you think about it," Eisner says, "all of Jewish cultural history has been based around Jewish cultural fighters, like Samson and David. In the 1940s, we were facing the Nazis, an apparently unstoppable force. And what better way to deal with a supervillain like Hitler than with a superhero?"

And here's Jack Kirby on Captain America:
"Captain America was me, and I was Captain America. I saw him as part of me, and he always will be. In the fight scenes, when Cap used to take on seven men at once and five bodies would fly around the room while he punched two in the jaw -- that's how I remember the street fights from my childhood.""Jewish kids then were raised with a belief in moral values. In the movies, good always triumphed over evil. Underneath all of the sophistication of modern comics, all the twists and psychological drama, good triumphs over evail. Those are the things I learned from my parents and from the Bible. It's part of my Jewish heritage," Kirby says.

Here is Joe Simon on Captain America:
Captain America was born in 1941, as the nation stood at the brink of war. "There was a tremendous search for villains at that time," Simon recalls. "That was when (Batman's nemesis) the Joker was created. Jack and I took a look at the world and decided that Adolf Hitler had to be the ultimate villain. "Once we had our villain, it became a matter of creating a patriotic hero to fight him."

Everybody's talking about GOP Rep. Virginia Foxx and her mean-spirited letter to a 10-year-old. Maybe I should ask my 17-year-old daughter to tell everyone about her in-person interaction with Rep. Foxx when she went to DC to lobby legislators with the Ruchot Social Action at the Capitol trip
