I know now why I cannot ever find the words
How do you translate such a helpless scream,
A muted shriek of terror, swallowed long ago?
It still rings in hollow pathways of my mind
Where once thought and sensation flowed
Before blood poured in to clog the channels
But while the dank sludge was cleaned
Fear moved in to fill those channels instead
“I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid,” it calls
A useless lesson for a time I could not control
The doom has passed for but today only
And the swallowed scream in my mind cries
Drinking up every word to describe that horror
Buried behind the sound of a survivor sobbing
So I am left with nothing but numb silence
I try, I try, I try to find the words to speak of it
But all I can hear in my heart, my mind, my soul
Is a person whose terrified screams for help
Were never heeded, never heard, never seen
I know now why I cannot ever find the words

Miracles are just like craft herpes, glitter
They're fucking everywhere if you look, honestly

Sometimes people send you packages
With bags of them stuck to the tape
So when you open the box they explode
All over you, your lap, the room, the table
And you will never stop finding them
As long as you remember to keep looking

They get in your hair, on your skin
It takes days, weeks, years to come off
But you'll find some under the couch later
Then you'll have miracles on you again

It gets in your food and you'll carry it inside you
It gets in your eyes and makes you want to cry
It gets in your heart, your lungs, your brain
Flows through your blood, gets in your bones
Gets stuck in your kidneys, your liver
And nothing ever quite undoes the impact
Of having a miracle come into your life

You will always, always, carry that impact
Finding it in strange corners of your life
In unexpected moments or specific searching
Until you start to see them elsewhere too

In small interactions with a stranger at a store
While watching your garden grow and change
Laughing with friends and family over dinner
Listening to music or watching an old movie

I wrote this poem a while back and I honestly can't stop thinking about it

Not Actually The Devil Went Down To Georgia I Swear
by Orpheus Wren

The devil came to see me
He knocked upon my door
He smiled when I answered
Said "I'd like to buy your soul
It's got a different flavor, see
So I'd like to buy it off of you for–"
I stopped him there, "Nah, it's free
You can't buy all of it anymore"

The devil frowned at what I'd done
He said "I don't think I understand"
I shrugged and smiled, nodded then
"I'm not really certain that you can"

The devil shook his head, confused
"But humans are always made of greed!
You need money just to survive!
Look, I'll give more than you need!"

I just shrugged and smiled, wry
"Eh, nah, I don't need more than this
I put my soul up on my Ko-fi, see
And right now? Life is kinda bliss
Sometimes people buy a piece or two
'Pay what you want' for my soul's kiss
If you want one too, take it for free!

The devil only stared at me then
Lost for what he could ever say
