The UAW endorsed Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan. Most people who say most union members are MAGA have probably only read quotes from select psychos they saw on the internet. American unions have also been so purposefully neutered most people dont even know a union member anymore.

The interesting question is not who uses Zotero or does not use Zotero. The interesting question is which academics enjoy working conditions that allow them to make scholarship central to their professional lives, and which academics have to do scholarship <in spite> of their working conditions.

Happy to see the local news coverage of yesterday's anti-ICE protest. We shut down Hartford Main Street for an hour with singing and street theater. About 400 people on a Wednesday afternoon, organized w/o social media. Grateful to the organizers for making it effective and efficient! Keep going.

🤔😑 My English dept, like many, has lost about 1/3 of its tenure lines. I'm 43 and in my 5th yr of the tenure track after 7 yrs on term contracts. Until this spring, I was the only asst prof in my dept. Our "new" TT hire, who is wonderful, has been teaching as long as me, and they're older than me.

There are stories from all over about universities' dismantling of the humanities. I have a small but dismaying data point from my university to contribute to the discourse. Harvard University now has NO assistant professors of English. That's how long it has been since we were allowed to hire.

the focus of my college seminar conversations, for the last 4 years, has been working toward a *basic comprehension* of words on the page. This is a greater crisis for democracy than whether Democrats are speaking like “normal people.”
