I couldn't find The Last Bear by @hannahgold.bsky.social in the library in Riom, France, but it is available in Saint Beauzire which is where we are staying.

This evening members of @newarktrg.bsky.social presented their Examples of Practice. The enthusiasm for their work moved me to happy tears. The one recurring theme was surprise at how very little effort made such an impact on the children's response to reading. Of course we celebrated with a story.

On this day, four years ago, I entered the world of education. My work is rewarding, possibly more than anything else I have ever done. One national award later, smiles everyday and an absolute passion to change lives. I make my living sharing stories with children. Make your vacation your vocation!

Has anyone else noticed a change in children's habits this year? After many consecutive years of literary consumption only one child has borrowed a Harry Potter book this year & the same with David Williams. Yet Katya Balen, Lisa Thompson, D Pilkey, A Blabey, R Telgemeier ++ fly from the shelves.

This is the first Father's Day without my Dad, but I have the fondest memories of Saturday afternoons listening to him reading stories like Winnie the Pooh and Mr Pink Whistle. Winnie was a book he kept from his own childhood. Reading together is one of my most precious memories.

I think it's quite obvious from some of this morning's book returns what children enjoy reading at our school.

I shared My Beautiful Voice by Joseph Coehlo with Year 5 today. Many children recognised themselves. More than a handful came to speak with me afterwards about how anxiety affects them. What a wonderful story & a great opportunity to offer support, understanding & to build relationships.

When you get near to the end of the school year having spent every penny of the RfP budget and then you find another book that you know the children will love. This sounds like a great read. Added to my list.

A thought for the new term. READING FOR PLEASURE is the most important thing in education: more important than any test scores, or any of the hoops we make our kids jump through. So whatever else you do, please never stop helping kids find books to read & love. It will change their lives! #literacy

'I love reading, but most of all I like reading facts. I have learnt so much from reading and it has made my school work easier. Reading has changed my life.' My eyes leaked happy tears this week. I want to remember that child's words forever.

Retail Management, Telecommunications Account Manager, Telecommunications Project Manager, Public House/Restaurant Owner and now Reading Champion in Primary Education. This has made me feel old when I think of how many years that encompasses, but nothing has been as rewarding as my current role.

When Cucumber Lost His Cool by Michelle Robinson. One of my favourite picture story books. It has a great rhythm and can't just be read. The children love it most when I rap it. It has been a super World Book Day. I hope you all had as much fun as we did.

World Book Day is a wonderful event to remind us of the joy of reading, but I was disappointed recently to view the words of a teacher in a public forum. 'On WBD we are allowing the children to read their way...' Choice is not just for WBD, give the children time to read their way, every day.

When a class have got independent reading time, try to sit with the children and read alongside them. Share the book you're reading, talk about why you're enjoying it and ask them about their choices. The impact on attitudes to reading will be massive. Organising the glue tray can wait.

I borrowed this book from the @newarktrg.bsky.social mini library. What a beautiful story about the knowledge you can gain from reading and friendship. All of the children I have shared it with this week from F2 to Year 6 have all said 'That's such a lovely story.' I really don't want to return it.

Whilst dinner table conversation in our house often includes the topic of physics and I regularly learn something from our in-house physics teacher. I suspect that @physicsmrh.bsky.social didn't know that Albert Einstein preferred not to wear socks.

I have just signed up for Audible mainly to further increase my knowledge of #kidslit I can listen to stories in places where I can't read. I am not sure it's working for me. Can anyone recommend a good children's story where an animated reader really brings it alive? Please inspire me.

I recently invested in many dyslexia friendly titles from Barrington Stoke . Few children in our school have dyslexia, but I pitched the books to the children as short stories. I have NEVER seen such excitement for reading from children who previously lacked engagement. What an effect they have had.

Earth Takes a Break a stunningly illustrated #picturebook from Emily House. Written during lockdown when we all gave our world a break from our every day lives. For teachers, it's sufficiently thought provoking to produce some super creative writing about the effect we have on our environment. 💙📚

As he says, my husband & I listened to this last night. It did cause discussion. 🫣 I would be interested to know how other #UKKidLit followers feel. As a child totally turned off by those traditional texts chosen by my teacher, would modern text relevant to today's child deliver the same benefits?
