it's better PR for them to say "we created this god-like monster that we can't control. regulated us before we destroy" then "our cults convinced us we were creating a god but instead it's just an unreliable chaotic mess that can never be "aligned" and therefore has limited profitability."

If there's a single graph you need to see to understand the AI extinction debate, it's this. To survive, frontier AI giants need to burn $10 trillion (a tenth of world GDP) over nxt 5 years. But they will only earn $3 trillion - a financial blackhole of $7 trillion. Who is going to go extinct?

Anthropic, OpenAI and Google DeepMind will need $10 trillion over next 5 years, but will earn only about $3 trillion.
