You can laugh at this but it’s fifty years of reactionary politics at a glance. Yes, they got everything they demanded; yes, they’re angrier than ever and yes, they want more cruelty, vandalism and idiocy. As I told you in the 2010s: they will always be like this, they can’t be pleased or appeased.
Today marks 10 years since Britain voted to leave the EU. As Starmer finally falls on his sword and Britain faces a lurch to the left under Burnham we call for politicians to finally believe in Brexit and deliver the will of the people

Let me mark this one up. Now it includes the moment it became very clear that the dominant political and economic system and philosophy of the era was very bad and damaging, and that it needed to change ASAP, but then everyone dug their heels in and vowed to instead do it twice as hard.

Our brightest minds did everything they could think of to avoid this (relentlessly screaming abuse at anyone who said there may be something weird and fucked up about Britain’s relationships with the US and Israel) and it didn’t work. I’m afraid the public will just have to eat shit, yet again.

My Times piece: A tale of two economies, the UK before and after Trump's Iran war. Signs of improvement earlier in the year risk going into abrupt reverse because of this unnecessary energy shock:

Again: If I was anyone in any position of mild authority, I’d look at the out of control wingnut cranks at this newspaper running a two-month hate and terror campaign against *the police* as being pro-Islamist radicals, and I would conclude that they can do this to pretty much anyone they want now.
The Times rarely calls for resignations in its leading articles.
But the banning of Maccabi Tel Aviv fans on the grounds of fake
"intelligence" is a scandal for which Craig Guildford, chief of West Midlands police, should take full responsibility.

This correct, and almost none of it is organically arising from the public. The relentless fear and hate of the last decade was deliberately imposed by opportunist politicians, toxic media outlets, crackpot activists and malignant squillionaires, working hand in hand towards similar goals.

Headline from a serious and long working paper on the economic impact of Brexit. Possible that this has been feeding into OBR and HMT discussions?

Labour already had a major debate about this in 2015 and the candidate demanding scything benefit cuts and more austerity got 5% of the vote. Coincidentally, it was her campaign manager who then led the wrecking campaign to tank his own party to defeat in 2019. That man’s name? Morgan McSweeney.
