The youngest person his pager attack killed was 9-year-old Fatima Abdullah, who had just started 4th grade. The pager was on a table when it went off and she picked it up to take to her dad. It exploded in her face and reports said it covered the room in her blood. She wanted to learn English.

You could actually structure your moral code around the idea that law enforcement doesn't exist to execute people. You don't have to create perfect victim narratives, you can just refuse to accept that the state gets to kill people.

It occurs to me all the yelling at ICE in MPLS isn't merely funny. Getting made fun of like this is awful for morale. ICE is losing field officers faster than it can wave them through training, and a big part of it is how little of this these little weasels can take.

a fascinating writeup on the making of a set of widely distributed IDF propaganda videos, specifically identifying assets they used. there's something incredibly unsettling about the creative ethos here. stolen assets. no actual intelligence information at all. just hubris and pure fabrication.

Because I am angry I will share this again. One of the reasons that Israel is able to target individuals so precisely is that it collects every phone call in Gaza and stores the recordings in Microsoft Azure, then uses AI to analyze and pick targets.

I know a lot of you have already heard or read about BDS Movement's call against Microsoft, and felt weird and bad about it all, but decided to move forward as normal because of some degree of ambiguity. "What service is Microsoft providing?" Here it is, clear as day. A direct line to death.
According to three Unit 8200 sources, the cloud-based storage platform has facilitated the preparation of deadly airstrikes and has shaped military operations in Gaza and the West Bank.

Thanks to the control it exerts over Palestinian telecommunications infrastructure, Israel has long intercepted phone calls in the occupied territories. But the indiscriminate new system allows intelligence officers to play back the content of cellular calls made by Palestinians, capturing the conversations of a much larger pool of ordinary civilians.

Rümeysa Öztürk describes the library in the prison where she was held for 45 days for co-authoring an op-ed
After many requests, I finally accessed what turned out to be the saddest and smallest library I have ever seen. I was surprised to find that the books were not categorized by author or Dewey number but size. I tried to find a book before my allotted time ended and picked a cooking book; the second time I got a novel. I began flipping through the pages in search of solace, as books have always been my safe haven. To my surprise, I discovered handwritten notes scattered throughout the book, dated and written by various detainees over time. These messages were filled with reminders of hope, strength, and the assurance that this, too, shall pass. Tears welled up in my eyes as I read their heartfelt expressions. It’s incredible how human beings can find ways to uplift each other, transcending time, space, and borders if they want to and if they choose to. I continued to turn the pages, holding on to the hope of finding brighter moments in this terrifying situation—all thanks to the kindness of people I had never met.

A remarkable moment from an interview with Brad Lander on the Jewish Currents podcast: two ICE officers who arrested him are immigrant New Yorkers, one of whom was considering voting for him and Mamdani podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/o...
“I get arrested at 26 Federal Plaza.

Pretty rough arrest as everyone could see in the video, and they take me back in a hallway, and then they take off their masks. The first guy is a Pakistani Muslim immigrant who lives in Brighton Beach. The first ICE officer, and the second guy is an Indo-Gaianese immigrant who lives in South Ozone Park.

And one guy says, yeah, my wife really wants me to quit my job. I don't know how I'm going to pay the mortgage. And then the Pakistani Muslim guy says, what's Mamdani like?

He's been to my mosque a couple of times, and I'm thinking of ranking you guys. And I'm just like, I don't know what to make of this. I mean, there's a whole broader issue.

Like these guys were not born brown shirts, but Donald Trump and the times that we're living in are making them brown shirts.”

I've been banging this drum for years now, I know, but Zohran's Big Night is a clear illustration of the power of giving people a vision of the future that boldly contradicts the rhetoric of Republican fearmongers. Not just "disagrees on policies," but actively paints a different image of the world.
