I agree that detectors aren’t the solution. But I think that’s exactly why institutions reach for them: trust doesn’t scale, so they look for a measurable shortcut. The danger is when a probabilistic signal starts being treated as proof.

Why are publishers doing business with authors they don't trust to actually write the book? Why are authors doing business with publishers who don't trust them to be forthright in their dealings? AI detectors are not the solution.

I disagree with the premise that self-publishers need to have a self-pub co. to help them. KDP, D2D, and IngramSpark make it easy to DIY. The distinction between selfpub co. (e.g. AuthorHouse) and a POD co. (e.g. KDP) can be the difference betw. a scam and legit companies. #indiepublishing
