Something I didn’t know; Tornado Red will be a colour option once the ID Polo #GTI - also ‘on tour’, along with the #IDCross - has launched in early 2027 (UK). Python Yellow Metallic is the standard colour. The car arrives in showrooms in November; I’m excited to drive it in October. #VW #IDPolo

Finally! After a year of teases, spy shots and reveals, I finally saw the new #Volkswagen #IDPolo for myself on Saturday at the ID Polo Roadshow in Milton Keynes. It looks really fantastic, and the return to ‘true’ Volkswagen values is clear, from the operational tech to the use of materials.

Only thing we’ve had an issue with is the battery, but that’s not the car’s (90k miles) fault. Lots of clonks from the front (Stu B says link bushes?), but always passes MoT. Most crippling thing is VED: £460! Modutop is ace. We were very lucky to find a non-diesel, and with that option! #Citroen

Interesting. Black plates on a Granada, too. To make matters worse, the same #Corrado appears later in the same episode with a different 'C'-plate, and if you look very carefully, it’s a VR6, which didn't arrive until 1992... #Volkswagen #VW

Oh, I hate being a nerd sometimes. But TV production staff make picking holes easy. Watching ‘The Bombing of Pan-Am 103’, I spotted a #Corrado parked outside the police station. It would have been current (just) in 1988, but why backdate it to 1985/6 with a ‘C’-plate registration? #Volkswagen

I’ve finally added the Magic Car Group MkII #Polo Coupé to my model car garage. In 1:18 scale, it’s a lovely and well-made thing. Had to be a Comet Blue GT, as it’s such a lovely colour. MCG also sells a black G40 (too nondescript), and a red Fox, which incorrectly still has the GT badge… #VW

Another milestone yesterday. Since I bought my 2014 #Volkswagen #Polo BlueGT almost five years ago, we’ve done 40,000 miles together. And I still love it. Handsome, fast, and economical (47-52mpg from a 1.4-litre, 138bhp turbo engine) it really is an understated - and underrated - gem.

Likewise, the new #GTI celebration commercial will debut today and be played in World Cup matches, but I'm sorry, this is resolutely not a 1976, 'P'-registration MkI Golf GTI. This is a 1983 'Campaign/Pirelli' run-out model. I appreciate 'everyman' won't know the difference, but I'm disappointed.

We all know the #Volkswagen #Golf #GTI celebrates its 50th birthday in 2026. The September 1975 issue of German magazine Gute Fahrt (go on, snigger) featured an early pre-production car, with different 'GTI' font and steering wheel. VW made the right call with the final production versions of both.

For all the time I’ve had my Polo BlueGT (five years this September), I’ve always wondered if the wheels were silver or grey/anthracite (the latter was a no-cost option). Aside from one rim, which may have been replaced (wing, too, possibly), they seem darker than silver. #VW #Volkswagen #VWPolo
