All this was BEFORE Carney went all in on gas. Just think where we will be when this policy kicks into high gear. The lost opportunity, the lost $BILS You'd think electing Make Harris would have been lesson enough. But nope.

IMO, BILD decision to jump from Wynne's OLP to Ford's PC party had less to do with dissatisfaction with the OLP's greenbelt, than it did with the anticipation of having a Premier who is far more amenable to "solving" member's issues the old fashioned way. That, and box seats and strippers.

Renewables, especially solar and energy storage are cheaper, and faster to roll out. They produce 100% less GHGs than natural gas and less waste heat. They trump all other generation option on science and economic metrics. Sound civic policy with none of the corporate capture of govt influence.

More importantly, solar doesn't spew localized heat, toxic air pollution, or deafening noise into existing residential communities the way emergency mobile gas peaker plants do. Carney’s obsession with fossil fuel baseloads isn't a sound transition. It's a product of corporate capture #cdnpoli

Let's look at the lie. Utility scale solar & storage are vastly faster to manufacture, install, and commission than building a new natural gas peaker plants. When a community needs rapid grid capacity, solar can be deployed in a fraction of the time it takes to clear gas pipe regulatory hurdles.

And Mark Carney signed off on all of this. The federal MOU explicitly exempted Alberta’s clean electricity timelines and removed the oil/gas emissions cap under the justification of powering tech infrastructure. All under the corporate lie that fossil fuels are a necessary "bridge fuel."

National averages are a completely useless metric when regional grids are actively being corrupted. Worse, Mark Carney's own spring platform explicitly plans to INCREASE Canada’s natural gas proportion. He is actively pushing to amp up baseload gas generation #cdnpoli

Also, hiding behind a "10% national average" is lazy political accounting. Canada’s grid looks clean only because Quebec and BC have massive legacy hydro. Alberta currently relies on natural gas for over 60% of its power. The UCP just rigged the rules to assure that percentage grows exponentially.

You're not watching current affairs in Alberta, so let me explain why I didn't assume anything. Days ago, the Alberta Electric System Operator dropped its electrical generation requirements for new AI data centers. The punchline? Only gas fired facilities can meet the prov capacity rules.

Data center developers in Alberta are now effectively banned from using wind or solar, even if they want to. By configuring grid procurement rules this way, the UCP has structurally engineered a permanent, captive domestic market for Alberta natural gas.

On a Sunday caucus call just one day after Prime Minister Mark Carney told Canadians the White House’s latest tariffs amounted to a “new attack on Canada,” Canada-U.S. Trade Minister Dominic LeBlanc asked MPs to be careful with what they say on social media and to decline requests to talk trade on American networks like CNN, said two Liberal sources, who were granted anonymity to speak freely about internal matters.

Carney emphasized that advice when he joined the call, according to one of the sources. A third source confirmed MPs were urged to be cautious but said there was no formal ban on speaking out. Part of the government’s thinking, a fourth source explained, is that MPs should be cautious with media because they are not fully aware of every single detail in the trade negotiations.
