Today is National Biscuit Day, and it’s about time that I populated this account with biscuit (cookie) sets from the past few years. Here are some of my favourites. 🧵 First up, a set inspired by the delicious designs of William Morris and John Henry Dearle.
A set of eight rectangular cookies arranged on a square white plate against a dark wooden background. Each cookie is inspired by a wallpaper design by Morris & Co. The patterns represented feature different floral and leaf shapes in shades of baby blue, soft pink, leafy green, mustard yellow, cream, and dark grey.

Shou Xin
Shou Xin is known for capturing the essence and subtle emotions of cats through minimalist linework.
The artist often uses pencils, erasers, and small knives to create texture, combining sharp lines with soft shading.
Negative space is utilized to emphasize movement and emotion in the drawings.
The sketches focus on expressive eyes and abstract forms to bring the subject to life.

- abandoned - kerkrade west the netherlands 16 09 2020 14:28
this image whispers of abandonment, a quiet testimony to the passage of time and neglect. the worn tiles and dim reflections speak of forgotten purpose, of spaces once alive now stripped of meaning. my silhouette in the mirror, blurred and indistinct, becomes a ghostly echo of presence; a reminder of self, caught in a place where no one looks anymore.

the faint light through the window struggles against the shadows, a fragile hint of hope that fails to conquer the weight of desolation. the empty glass holders and unused sink stand as symbols of futility, remnants of function lost to disrepair.

it is a portrait of solitude, a meditation on what is left behind when care is withdrawn. and yet, in its decay, there is a strange beauty; a call to remember, to witness, to confront the void left by neglect.

This print “Occam’s Razor” is about the Law of Economy or Parsimony postulated by Scholastic philosopher William of Ockham (1287–1347), “pluralitas non est ponenda sine necessitate” or entities should not be needlessly multiplied. 🧪🐡 #histsci More simply this law, or really, rule of thumb is 🧵
My linocut print of Occam’s Razor shows Ockham himself, inspired by an image of him from a stained glass window in Surrey, the proverbial and labelled razor and many unlikely things (aliens, ghosts, cryptozoological creatures) it would cut away. It is printed by hand, from two carved relief lino blocks in lavender, silver, pale yellow and phthalo blue on delicate Japanese kozo (or mulberry) paper. Each print is 8" by 9" or 20.3 cm by 22.9 cm.

Canadian media: Artist Christopher Griffin (Ottawa and PEI based) has just left his Artist in Residence position at Atlantic Veterinary College because US professors objected to a painting. He was given the option of taking it down, or leaving. He left. @sproudfoot.bsky.social @seansnmurphy.ca
From his website christophergriffin.ca:

It is with deep regret that I announce l am no longer Artist-in-Residence at the Atlantic Veterinary College, effective immediately. I recently began a collection of political paintings entitled 'O Canada.'On March 27, 2025, AVC administration asked me to take down one of the paintings in this collection, called 'the Crossing,' because a couple of American faculty members had expressed concern that the painting had a political meaning. I offered to host a public discussion to explain the intent and ethos of the painting; however, AVC declined this, indicating that they did not wish to host a political discussion.
Yesterday, I was given two choices: to take down the painting immediately or to leave my residency. I have chosen to do the latter.Announcement continued:

Perhaps more than any other institution in Canada, our public universities have a civic duty to uphold respectful discourse over censorship. At this pivotal time in Canadian history, when our very existence as a country is being threatened, I must allow myself to stand and be counted, shoulder to shoulder with my fellow Canadians.

Thank you,
Christopher

Let's be real, Edward Gorey's covers to John Bellairs books are little masterpieces of horror art.
Gorey's cover to John Bellair's Revenge of the Wizard's Ghost. A young man finds a mask and wand on the street. Back cover is a creepy stained glass window.Gorey's cover to The Lamp from the Warlock's Tomb. A young man shines a flashlight on a bald pale person in a cloak. Back cover: The young man and another person look at a castle from afar. The castle is covered in trees and has a turret rising out of it. Gorey's cover to The Eyes of the Killer Robot. A group of three look at a robot in parts. Back cover: a young man is laid on a table by a much older man as a spirit watche them both from a darkened corner. Gorey's cover to John Bellairs The Spell of the Sorcerer's Skull. A young man looks into the window of a dilapidated house.
