Actually, the project needs 200 yards, so I’m only unplying 100. But still.

May I suggest never doing a fiber project that involves unplying 200 yards of yarn. At least it’s just 2-ply.

Several weeks ago, Phil Tippett's legendary animation studio in Berkeley, CA closed. An anonymous hero noticed a folder of CDs. This turned out to be hundreds of unseen hi-res images and videos from Star Wars, Robocop, Jurassic Park, etc. ~90 isos for you to browse: archive.org/details/tipp...

A casual Star Wars alien fella at the cantina, in a sun faded, reddish photo. Someone will be mad at me for not knowing who this is.

Phil, a balding Caucasian man, poses a model of the garthok, an antagonist from the Coneheads movie.

Phil, a balding caucasian man, points at some CG on a CRT computer monitor, as a younger man looks on. The screen shows a model of a dinosaur attacking a jeep, while there's an actual physical model of that event in the foreground for reference.

an isolated shot of a star wars vehicle. Sorry, I don't know star wars lol

I *will* say, my CGMs became suspiciously free recently (I’m on the oldest model), so it may be worth asking if there’s now a free model on your insurance.

Private companies stewarding public media is just a bad idea. And according to the article, licensing does not cover costs. They give the media away and treat the access as overhead.

Well, fall has blustered its way in with lovely wet grey depression-inducing weather. It is, at least, also kitty-cat-is-finally-snuggly weather, as I had someone on my lap for a good portion of yesterday once I got the blanket out. Made it hard to do anything else, though.

For everyone else, here’s some cat balls. Get on my level.

An extremely handsome orange cat, belly up. He doesn’t actually have balls, because the county is mean.

The same orange cat with the same lack of balls. You will enjoy this content.

Look at him. He’s orange and handsome and the county took his balls. A crime.

Ok, Midwest folks. I am considering going to my undergrad reunion this year, since it’ll be 20 (!!!) years since graduating. Anyone in the greater Chicago area (@omphale23.bsky.social) want to also meet up if I can swing it after? Looking at mid April.

For the longest time our cat wouldn’t eat anything that didn’t come from a can with a picture of a cat on it, then a year or two ago he started noticing my croissants. I figured it was the butter, but last week he was hassling my sister for her pita bread, so yeah he’s just become a bread weirdo.

The 40 hour work week. Compensation for overtime. The right to organize and strike. These were not inherent rights given to all in the US and Canada. They were fought for by the courageous workers who came before us. On Labor Day, we remember how far we've come, as well as our fight left ahead.

Friendly Neighborhood Mouse @missmouse.bsky.social · 06/09/2026

Friday morning, I was gardening when I checked my phone. A request had gone out for help. For 25+ hours, ICE had been laying siege to a quiet neighborhood in Frederick, MD. Community members were afraid, some didn’t want to leave their homes. ICE vehicles seemed to be lurking on every corner.

ICE vehicle - black Nissan Maxima with plate cover - posted up in a spot that also serves as an elementary school bus stop.

Another ICE vehicle, black Dodge Durango, lurking around the community.

Two more ICE vehicles - black Dodge Durango and a white SUV, unclear on make, model - on a quiet residential street, being quietly creepy. Note that the white SUV has its plate covered.

Yet another ICE vehicle. Black Nissan Pathfinder. They were all over the neighborhood.

Dreamed I was watching an episode of The Pitt that was a flashback to Robbie’s early career. They had very obviously just taken footage from episodes of ER, then ‘attempted’ to hide it by replacing everyone’s face with young Noah Wylie’s. Theoretically it was to show how overworked he was.

Welp, there it is. The CDC is now officially manipulating data and their count of measles deaths in 2026 now stands at ZERO. My understanding of reportable diseases is that the CDC would usually use a state health department’s determination as the final say. The new CDC Director is failing us.

The CDC left two measles-associated Pa. deaths out of its latest count after RFK Jr. sparred with Gov. Shapiro

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has accused Pennsylvania of not cooperating with the CDC in its handling of a measles outbreak.
