This overtime abuse should be garnished back to us over a period of a few years. Completely unacceptable that they're gonna get away with this theft with less than a slap on the wrist.

What a breakdown in democracy that we’ve ceded control of AI to tech sociopaths, an amoral marketplace, all manner of grifters up and down and in and outside of government, while the citizenry is just left to sit around and watch Pandora’s Unboxing Video.

So we're supposed to believe none of that financial mess happened in the First Precinct downtown, where current chief Bill Peterson previously served as an inspector? Let's see the overtime he approved.

In Minnesota, bigfoot would need to swear they are a US citizen and is over 18 (under penalty of perjury) and would likey need a voucher verifying their residence. Unless they could prove residence in the other ways allowable under MN law.

The degree to which police departments have financial incentives to over-respond to situations where their presence is straight up not needed at ALL, because they can make a bunch of extra money for zero personal risk, is something that even the pro-cop brigade should be concerned about.

If Jacob Frey cannot get his police department, over which he has 100% control in our strong mayor system, under control and under budget, then he should resign. He should resign.

Being that guy, I feel obligated to respond. MPD is like when your kid racks up hundreds of dollars of pointless in-app purchases and you can't afford your medical bills (health department) and at the end of the ordeal you don't actually have anything that benefits your household.

The city council needs to stop being nice about this "defund by foot dragging" strategy. The mayor and departments need to be held accountable to execute the budget.

Based on this comment and email replys I've received, I think we have the BET votes for full park funding. Olson, EHB, Payne and Chughtai. Brandt was in favor of 4% but not full. Frey would probably vote along his budget.

On June 1, Frey offered Osman a spot on the city’s search committee for O’Hara’s replacement. After he accepted, Frey then asked that he reconsider his position on Barnette. When Osman refused, he says the mayor rescinded that offer.

This is an awful idea! I understand we’re facing major county cost pressures due to HR1, but cutting from our popular and heavily utilized library system to save 0.4% on the tax levy is bad strategy. Weakens a popular service and doesn’t nearly plug the hole. www.startribune.com/hennepin-cou...

My letter to the Board of Estimate & Taxation about the Mayor's proposed budget. Feel free to borrow the text or talking points for your own letter to the body. Their email addresses can be found here: lims.minneapolismn.gov/boards/bet
Distinguished members of the Board of Estimate and Taxation,

Today Mayor Frey put forward his 2027 recommended budget, including his levy recommendations. I am writing to you today to express my concern in the recommendation to hold the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board to a 2.5% levy increase.

Since 1883 the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board has stewarded the highest quality assets and services for the residents of Minneapolis, which have regional and national significance. Holding them to a 2.5% increase is unacceptable to me as a resident and property tax payer. In 2024 this body made a critical mistake in not accepting the park boards full levy ask and as a result we lost a whole hour of park building hours that we will likely never get back.

I know this body is consistently put in the position to weigh difficult decisions, but I urge you to choose the hard decision of raising our property taxes. MPRB and its assets (parks, programming, and staff) should not have to pay for the lack of accountability and oversight from the Frey administration's department budgets. Minneapolis parks do far more for the public safety ecosystem in this city than MPD ever could, yet they continue to be the place we rob from when the times are tough.

Enough is enough, please give the parks what they ask for.

Best,
Patrick McDougle

The Mayor's proposed Park Board property tax increase of 2.5% (about .5% of his 11% overall increase) seriously underfunds our parks and will result in major reductions to service levels. The Park Board requested and needs 5.86% (about 1% overall) to maintain current service levels.

Frey has deliberately chosen to run the operating and capital budget of this city far hotter than it should have been running to further his own political career and leave a huge budget problem onto the next mayor. Quick wins, press conferences, and no accountability and we're going to foot the bill
