i dont know, im not surprised at all. this is the moral rot of a party that proudly laughs over palestinian genocide while making every single appeasement and concession to republicans while just pretending to put up an opposition. of course they honour that guy over the death of their own workers

I both expected you to come and am surprised to see you, O Son of Hades. #art | #hadesgame | #zagreus

illustration of a pale young man with spiky black hair, wearing black/red ancient greek clothes, his feet are bare, glowing orange and scalding hot, he is floating in the middle of a floating platform, surrounded by falling broken pillars, holding his hand out, reaching for a purple boon by the primordial god chaos, whose grey-ish face is emerging from the darkness behind him, giant in comparison.
in the foreground we can see chaos's hand holding the platform

I knew Fatima's work, I respect her last wishes. 😞 "If I die, I want a resounding death. I don't want to be in breaking news, nor as a number in a group. I want a death that the world will hear about, an impact that will last forever, and immortal images that will not be buried by time or space."

Obama had a Congressional supermajority for AT LEAST four months, and the best he could do was pass Heritage Foundation-designed health insurance reform. Can you imagine how much Republicans would completely remake society if they had a supermajority for even a single day?

My lady of the Sea #dragonage #art

Digital study of John Singer Sargent’s “Lady of Lochnaw” as Isabela from Dragon Age. She is holding a flower in her right hand and is wearing beads accompanying her gold coin necklace. She is looking off to the side with a small smile. The dress is white with opaque poofy sleeves. There is a large blue sash wrapped around her waist that leads into the bottom right corner of the image.

A new translation was recently published of a seminal manga/comics studies essay in 1995 that documents and explains manga iconography with 120 examples. It's so exciting to see a precursor of what I'm doing rn with the Comics Devices Library www.japanesestudies.org.uk/ejcjs/vol24/...

Abstract: In the following translation of an important essay from seminal Manga Studies work How to Read Manga (Manga no yomikata, 1995), manga creator and editor Takekuma Kentarō examines the full range of manga iconography (manpu) and visual effects in this sweeping survey of over 120 concrete samples. He calls these “shape metaphors” (keiyu) and classifies them into two main branches: stand-alone icons and picture-dependent metaphorical effects. If a giant sweat mark has been drawn on the back of a character’s head, one can tell that he is in a panic just from seeing that back figure even though this image is unrealistic. This is a type of visual metaphor and the profundity of such expressions are distinct to comic books. Takekuma’s “shape metaphors” have such refined functions that express the situation or the state of mind of a character, often efficiently and even humorously. Through their use, comic book artists have been able to liberate their stories from the bare bones of plot and create additional layers of psychology and mood all through these seemingly nonsensical and excessive graphic marks. For the first time, this translation presents in English the writings of this seminal manga artist, humorist, critic, and scholar and provides an encyclopedic-like guide to some of manga’s most interesting and irrepressible visual tropes.

A set of expressive lines used in manga to denote motion and feeling.
