This report by Gavin Cooney about the treatment Irish players, journalists and officials received at the hands of everyone even tangentially associated with Israel, the Israeli FA and Israeli "news" outlets is jaw dropping. These people are not ok. www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer...

Ireland v Israel was no ordinary match assignment. Irish journalists were watched and filmed
Recurring presence of out-of-place people combined with blatant filming of reporters made for a deeply uncomfortable week

“She asked the powers at NASA to let her add a safeguard to prevent that error in a real flight, and they laughed it off as too unlikely… When an astronaut did make that blooper during the Apollo 8 mission, it caused necessary navigational data to vanish, and they called Hamilton in to get it back.”

The US now directly copying the playbook of the Communist Party of China which leaned on the government of Zambia to cancel digital freedom event #RightsCon earlier this year, just days before the conference. Authoritarian governments HATE anyone calling out what they do. So let's keep doing it.

Someone told an American - who repeated it back to me - that Irish dancing came from ‘during colonialism’ people trying to hide when they were dancing in bars - cos the Brits didn’t like it - so they didn’t move their arms incase soldiers were looking through windows. Best laugh i’d had in ages!

Holy shit you guys there are so many things to see in this video. My favorite detail is one I recognize from studying Curiosity’s landing sequence. The vehicle rolls alternately left and right to control its lift as it enters the atmosphere in order to target its landing range

OpenAI are parasitic scum. As Wikimedia says; “AI companies are not doing enough to secure their systems and protect the public from the harm they cause.” These are DDOS attacks by a corporation's software doing exactly what it was designed to do. Why are we not seeing criminal charges?

I attended a seminar by freshly minted Nobel Laureate Francis Halzen many years ago and something he said stuck with me, but it takes some explaining, so this will be a (short) thread. The talk was about neutrino telescopes, and he started by explaining how rarely neutrinos interact with anything.

This ancient Greek figure from the 2,500 year-old Douris Cup looks uncannily like someone working on a laptop! 😲 💻 He’s actually writing with a stylus on a hinged wax writing tablet! The technology has changed, the posture has not! 😂 Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me
My photo shows detail from an ancient Greek red-figure kylix (drinking cup) of a young man shown in profile seated on a stool facing right. He wears a knee length cloak (himation) over his left shoulder, which is shown in folds around his waist and upper legs. His right shoulder, chest, and arms are bare. His dark hair is short, and he wears a band around his head. He is looking down at an open rectangular wax writing tablet which he is supporting in his left hand above his lap. In his right hand he holds a metal stylus pen poised over the writing tablet. The wooden writing tablet is hinged like a book and, from this angle, resembles a modern laptop. The figure is part of a scene depicting school lessons in ancient Athens, painted by Douris around 480 BC. On display at the Altes Museum in Berlin.

So grateful to hear the support for teachers work-to-rule in the media today. Nobody wants things to get to this point but needs must. The INTO and public sector unions have been looking for a negotiated pay agreement since June. Schools are underfunded, we are still seeing supersized classes of 30+
