Reappearing here briefly to announce that I just posted my 200th review at playcritically.com for a little game from last year called The Plucky Squire. www.playcritically.com/2025/03/22/t...

The Plucky Squire Review
The Plucky Squire has an incredible premise that feels underutilized by its small final product.

The Red Mirage sucks. Wisconsin is not giving me good feelings. I know I should stop but I can't look away. I envy the drooling morons who are only vaguely aware there's an election tonight.

I am so surprised at how people are freaking out about a result announcement pattern that is exactly the same as it usually is. Big cities take longer. The west coast is still voting. Turn off cable news.

Happy #indie review day, this week's review is for Europa. Prompted by his deceased father's journal, Zee travels across the terraformed surface of Jupiter's moon Europa. A device that lets him rocket into the sky and glide back to the ground adds whimsy which is defied by a misanthropic backstory.

Europa Review
Europa’s whimsical movement and watercolor art style contrasts poorly with its dreary and misanthropic backstory.

Happy bonus #indie review day, I finished this Dungeons of Hinterberg review a few weeks ago but couldn't find time to post it. Luisa goes to Hinterberg for a vacation filled with magic, monsters, and dungeon crawling. The setting and puzzles are wonderful. The movement and combat is mediocre.

Okay, I popped into a results livestream to see if this was gonna be an election where we have the results before the west coast sits down for dinner. It's not gonna be one of those elections. So I'll try to concentrate on something else this evening.

It's gonna bug me for years that Echoes of Wisdom has main quests called "A Rift in the Faron Wetlands," "The Rift on Eldin Volcano," and "Rift on Holy Mount Lanayru." That's the kind of thing I would have refused to let go back in my copyediting days.

I had this problem in Oregon when I voted for Kerry, twenty years ago. This is a known problem. The lack of a solution is because it's being exploited to suppress votes.

They're all subconsciously aware that they can only rally the support of mediocrities, but they can never articulate and internalize that feeling, hence the constant railing against "elites" despite most of them coming from the wealthy and privileged classes.

Guys, not to be a softie, but a ton of people thought this election was over in June. Tens of thousands of us have worked our asses off (for real, not just via poasting) to bring us to tonight, where we are favored on election eve. Now let’s make tomorrow the worst fucking day of Donald Trump’s life

One reason I've been cautiously optimistic this time around is, despite the similar numbers, a key difference is nobody was taking the win for granted this year.

Minor point but "half the country" remains a very wrong way to describe close elections. Registered voters are ≈48% of the population. Among registered voters, ≈70% vote. In 2020, a mere 22.4% of the country voted for Trump. Not "half."

You know what's more annoying than people who don't apply alt text? People who act really self righteousn about alt text and treat themselves like a martyr for stepping into the replies to do it themselves. Behaving like a smug, obnoxious little shit convinces nobody. I thought we learned this.

Grammar tip. Use a hyphen when you have an adv-adj-noun structure like “twice-impeached goon” if the adv modifies the adj. However, -ly adverbs like “obviously corrupt narcissist” require no hyphen. Have a great week!

Here's a first draft.
What’s been messing up all the polls?
It’s been abortion, all along!
What’s juicing up the Dem voter rolls?
It’s been abortion, all along!

It’s medical
How pathetical
That you haven’t even noticed
How the women vote (the women vote)
Women, women, women, women.

It’s too late to play dumb with Dobbs
And Project 2025 - come on!
Thanks to abortion!
You messed with abortion!
It’s been abortion all along!

And it cost them Iowa, too!
