Reminder that Carney has cut funding for Natural Resources Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Indigenous and Northern Affairs, and Indigenous Services. And he has rolled back climate protections, abandoned emissions targets, and is building more pipelines.
Carney:

"The wildfire situation has escalated significantly over the last three weeks across the country, and particularly in Northwestern Ontario.

Thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their communities, not knowing if their homes will survive.

On behalf of Canadians, I want to thank the brave firefighters, first responders, Indigenous and local leaders who are working tirelessly to keep people safe.

Our government is in close contact with provincial, municipal, and Indigenous partners and stands ready to provide any additional support as needed."

I did a tonne of research so you don't have to. I talk about masking, air filtration, and air quality rating systems, & I give concrete suggestions to help you keep yourself and your loved ones safe. If you don't have this information yet, it's time to get educated. Wildfires don't respect borders.

it was such a treat to share this conversation with Dr. Ensor for G19’s New Book Forum. _Queer Lasting_ examines the dominance of future-oriented thinking in the environmental humanities and traces an alternative ecological temporality based on lateness and recursion in queer lit of 1890s & 1980s

the Melville Society conference in Mystic Seaport this past week was pure magic. many of us slept on an 1882 sail ship that’s docked at Mystic Seaport Museum & then we wandered around UConn Avery Point campus in the days. so many good people, so much good whale-talk…I’ll be dreaming about it forever
A three-masted iron-hulled sail ship docked in a calm harbor with a sunset in the sky that reflects on the water. A low tide over flat shore rocks with tidepools, and a rising shoreline with a brick lighthouse in the background.

Like I've said before, if you have any doubts about climate change, just go to a super-boring insurance conference and listen to the super-boring panels where they dryly talk about the growing threat of disasters so catastrophic and unpredictable in scope they simply cannot be insured at any price.
