There is automation and there is creation. Every automation can be done by cheaper finetuned models at some point. Creation is pretty rare and if it’s needed also needs human oversight so it’s rate limited by human bottleneck.

I let Claude run the test on arbitrary other dates and it still found positive subreddits, that had "suspicious" drops during that time. This shows again: Just because two things happen at the same time doesnt mean they are related. Example: Vaccination of an 80+ person and their death thereafter.

Its a simple example of what happens if you run the same test in this case 1221 times (for 1221 subreddits). At some point you will get a false positive by chance. This happened here. It is not a coincidence that the methods are "positive" for smaller subs. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multipl...

This analysis of subreddits is fake. It claims to prove a drop in reddit usage in the timespan of ukrainian attacks on datacenters, however it was made entirely with chatgpt and the AI correctly warns that the results dont survive basic checks. It literally says so, but people share it anyway.

Twitter seems worse by quite a bit, but the general mechanism that works there also works here. On Twitter, pro-Trump content goes viral whether it's true or not. On Bluesky, it's anti-Trump content. People love having their views confirmed, it's human nature.

Because Dana asked, here's the statistical analysis of the last 2 weeks of AfD's posts on Twitter. It does *not* show any meaningful drop-off in engagement.
Analysis complete. Here's the full write-up.
AfD engagement statistical analysis (Sep 24 Oct 9, 2026)
Data & method
29 posts scraped from your logged-in session (~/Downloads/twitter.json), Sep 24 Oct 9, 2026.
Metrics were blank in the DOM, so I enriched every post by ID via the public fxtwitter API exact likes /retweets / replies / quotes / views / timestamp for all 29/29. (Saved to /tmp/afd_enriched.json.)
Engagement rate (likes + retweets + replies quotes) / views.
Windows: recent Oct 7-9 (final 5 posts) vs baseline = Sep 24 Oct 6 (24 posts).
Verdict: No sudden drop. If anything, a mild (non-significant) uptick.
The recent window is higher on absolute engagement and flat on engagement rate:

The only thing that looks like a "drop" is the quiet Oct 8 post (1,421 likes / 23k views) landing right after Oct 7's viral hit (7,502 likes / 314k views). But Oct 9 recovered to 4,041, so that's post-to-post noise, not a trend.

Over the two weeks up to Oct 9, AfD's engagement shows no sudden decline absolute likes/views are slightly up and the interaction rate is statistically unchanged (8.5% vs 8.3%, p = 0.96 ) If you're reacting to a specific number that looked low, it's almost certainly the quiet Oct 8 post following the Oct 7 viral spike, which is ordinary variance.
