For all this talk of Russian bots being defeated by the Yandex strikes I'm still getting the usual Matryoshka emails with the same fake news posts and purchased bot engagement. Seems more like wishful thinking based on misinterpreted data than reality.

Have you considered you may be considered a Russian asset? How well do you double check your sources ? The Politburo, CIA and Mossad bots are all still active, as well as the $2Billion global Public Relations industry, so ask who profits from managing you?

So, we’re getting disinformation about disinformation. Fortunately, I already voted. 😉

I did kind of enjoy the wishful thinking. But I appreciate Bellingcat and others letting us know it was just that.

It’s absolutely bizarre how quickly people spread this with zero backup; just an invited screenshot of a graph that confirms their suspicions; and when people try to inject some credulity they flip out. Inhave so little faith in humanity in the face of disinformation.

Ukraine should probably level all of the russian datacenters, to remove all doubt though. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Distryoying the tools of corruption is never a bad thing, regardless of whether or not you want to believe the facts. The reality shows Russia has lost at least 3 of its data centers. If you're not willing to celebrate a victory, you're not on our side in this war.

Would they actually run these operations from an official yandex data center in Russia?

I think there was some misreading of "that" chart. It references bot activity, as in web spiders, crawlers, indexers, etc, rather than IRA troll farm type activity ..

There are still data centers standing in russia. The operations have just moved things around and back to business as usual. I don't think its until the last data center is gone the whole problem stops for a day or two.

I think people need a win, so I'm conflicted on correcting claims when the botfarms are dispersed in St Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Nigeria, EU, South America, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Indonesia, etc. I'm assuming this is random confirmation bias: www.reddit.com/r/theydidthe...

But we could help by taking out more and more of the DCs, even if it doesnt reduce the bots, it brings attention to their effect.

Sam G @samthegeek.net · 12/10/2026

I think people confused “YandexBot” which is their search-engine web crawler and the generic idea of a ‘bot account.’ It does make sense that crawlers were shut down, they’re likely the lowest-priority workloads on Yandex’s job scheduler. It’s the first thing you turn off when you lose capacity.

Spent last night far too much time on it with some other people: bsky.app/profile/did:... what is sort of depressing that a German AI page farm seems to have a pretty good debunk and gemini itself also debunks it. Weird situation where AI debunks carbon based disinfo.

Bernd Porr@berndporr.me.uk

Originated on Threads: www.threads.com/@robin_schli... (found by: bsky.app/profile/raph... ) then "enhanced" by the MEP with "if that's true" and then turned into a fact by the Chadbourne (as he's done many times in the past to get virality). Interestingly, gemini also de-bunked that straight away.
