This happens in the US too. Some fish and crustaceans are caught in US waters, shipped to Asia for processing, and re-imported and sold as “local caught.” That’s why I don’t factor in carbon footprint when discussing sustainable seafood.

Currently benign invaders do not always remain that way. Non-native "sleeper populations" can maintain low abundance (& low impact) for years or even decades - until triggered by an environmental factor (like climate change) to suddenly become invasive & disruptive. academic.oup.com/bioscience/a...
