I have tried one, and it helps but the air still smells of it when you're done. The amount of equipment I would need to comfortable with having kids around is not "small apartment" sized for sure.

Great write up! Curious, when you say “I know of at least one other competitor that legitimately runs that model (albeit a bit more complicated)“ who were you referring to?

Neat! I wonder if journalists would like the ability to designate that they are covering a certain event live? That would interest me as a reader, but that doesn’t mean it is something journalists themselves would like!

@joshuajfriedman.com one of my favorite ways to use Bluesky is to follow live-skeets of court hearings/arguments (by professional journalists, law profs, or whoever) but I find discovery isn’t always easy. is there anything you’d recommend to help me know when those threads are happening?

One of my friends played it in middle school. My strongest memory is that they had a unit choice, that took up space in the force org chart, that was just a blast template. No model attached. I don’t remember any other army in 40K having that? At least at the time?

What's funny is that it feels like a very Burnside interaction. If Neil saw someone with incredible talent who hadn't even heard of the proper training, he would be annoyed and rude. But *then* he would be helpful!

I made a similar switch in the new year and absolutely love it. Started out just wanting to avoid microplastics. Very quickly moved on to shopping for tea sets! I do feel like this sometimes: youtu.be/4ZK8Z8hulFg?...

@sarahmackattack.bsky.social Just wanted to say thank you—my family has the frog fact calendar hanging in our living room. The adults and our one year old all love it!

@indiegameclinic.bsky.social Hey, just wanted to say how much I loved Strange Voyage. I left Twitter a while ago and it’s been one of the things I miss the most. Would make me stop and reflect multiple times per week. Thanks for putting it out there, it was so beautiful.

Absolutely. There are things I love about VTTs! But I find a limitations of audio to be a pain. As a DM, I now have to be the traffic control for crosstalk— one more thing to manage. And so much harder to get a read on people to see what’s working and what isn’t.

What’s new in the world of shark/marine biology? What technologies/techniques/frameworks/questions are “cutting edge” (chomping edge?) scientists using and looking into?

How to get started learning basic bike maintenance? how to get started with maintenance specifically for e-bikes?

A Pile Of Vegetables @pileofvegetables.bsky.social · 13/08/2024
I’ll take you up on this. I grew up in a family that didn’t bike much. I now love my e-bike for my commute. I have a one-year-old child, and would love to get something she could safely ride in and start taking her around. But I’m nervous that I don’t know anything about bike maintenance.

I was the same way, with both the comics and the…manifesto books? Cannot explain why. I had of course never worked in an office, and neither had my parents. Why was I so drawn to this? Inexplicable.

Under capitalism productive technologies aren’t used to reduce the burden on workers, but to eliminate workers so that capitalists can pocket ever greater profits. We have everything we need to make life carefree and easy, but we lack the economic and polical structures to make that a reality.

An interesting point! But if someone is taking a ferry by foot, that’s usually a fraction of their trip (by distance), right? If the ferry is one part of an overall car-less trip, I wonder if it winds up being a net benefit.

We know how to stop Covid (and it would probably do for a lot of other diseases too). We lack the will.
Chart from a study on filtering air, which shows proper filtering can bring airborne levels to practically zero.

Having isolated myself for the past five days to avoid getting COVID from the spouse, I am once again falling into despair about the collective decision to just pretend that COVID is no longer a problem, that it's fine if people experience multiple reinfections, and that precautions are unnecessary.

The deal seems to be that people can largely live like in pre-pandemic times as long as we accept getting miserably ill maybe twice a year (especially during family holidays), accept heightened risks of long-term health problems, and let old/vulnerable folks die. Doesn’t seem like a good deal to me.

Reclaiming our communities from the car is about more than saving the planet. It’s about saving ourselves from the inequitable, unliveable, financially-ruinous places we’ve built. Ten books we read this year that changed how we think about mobility. An #urbanismbookclub thread.
A collage of nine book covers of various titles in the fields of mobility and urban planning.
