Jazz bassist Ray Brown (1926–2002) was born 100 years ago today in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. A pioneering force in the bebop era, he notably collaborated with Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, and Oscar Peterson. He was honored with the National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master Award in 1995.

Better late than never to weigh in that I agree with the many who have said that the monologue on this past Saturday Night Live was disgusting. What's equally concerning is the number of gatekeepers it got past to air- from the friends who probably laughed hard to NBC's highest gatekeepers
