Forever an O-4, but Lieutenant Commander is just too many syllables. Opinions my own, not USG/DOD/DON/USN/etc etc etc

This series is utterly fantastic. Actually, all of his series are they rare combination of fun, well written, and deeply meaningful

@edsbs.bsky.social @hollyanderson.bsky.social This is the actual tagline on FBI recruitment materials. if you’re wondering why allowing sheep fuckers is suddenly an issue.

I forgot the Blue Angels fly Rhinos (Super Hornets). They’re even worse, though with somewhat better range.

Hard agree. I worked for an F/A-18C squadron and that is a plane compromised to hell - Too slow for intense air to air combat - Not enough range for effective strike The pilots were very very good, but they had to be because of the weapon they were given

Engaged in a pitched battle with the spotted lanternfly nymphs climbing my back yard willow tree. Multiple sticky strips around the trunk. Spraying the trunk with soap. Built a trap from the University of Pennsylvania extension office. They will not win.

It’s just me and the wife, so we decided to be non-conventional: - Chicken Tinga - Taco Ground Beef - Homemade Flour Tortillas - Refried Beans - Salsa For Dessert - Three Layer Funfetti Cake with a buttercream

Plus, they say 1600 people are killed by strangers. There were nearly *23000* murders in the US. The problem isn’t “Strangers,” it’s the people we know. Not only was the movie not good, but it’s irresponsible too.

THE STRANGERS: CHAPTER 2 @ #fantasticfest starts with how many people were killed by strangers. This cheap attempt to stoke fear is insulting: almost all women are killed by men they know. In my home of DC, false fears of crime are the reason we’re occupied by national guard and federal police.

Note to resorts outside the US that cater to Americans: you don’t need to play the soft rock hits of the 90s just for us. Play local music! We can’t understand the language anyways! It’s way more distracting to look up from your drink and go, “Is this fucking Fountains of Wayne?”

I like to tell my very scared coworkers that I live between three public housing developments and two Michelin starred restaurants. I’ve never felt unsafe in really any city (white man privilege, I’m sure). I’ve felt VERY uncomfortable walking around quiet suburban neighborhoods.

So, ultimately, Good Boy is about loss. I think how much it affects you will depend on how raw a loss is for you. Mine was surprisingly raw, and it hit me HARD. It’s so so so so good though. An utterly brilliant concept and execution. See it.

A head to head comparison of donations from Florida and Oregon. Florida has donated $19660; Oregon just $512.

My beautiful and brilliant wife went to Oregon, I to Florida. Their football teams have played only once, in 1929 in Miami. Florida won 20-6, leaving Florida with a perfect win percentage.
A screenshot showing that Florida had a perfect winning percentage against Oregon, with one victory in 1929.

Once when I was visiting from college, my dad was supposed to pick me up from the airport. Instead he sent his friend to get me, a friend who was drinking in the airport. I only realized this on the way home; then I was trapped in a car with a drunk driver. America feels like that, right now.

That’s good news at least! Question: I’m assuming he was barred from ever returning to the US; how much did that factor into the early release? I can imagine a judge giving more leeway if the person’s never coming back.

And here comes the staff officer in me: - What format do you want? Bullet points? Narrative? - Some roles are qualitative, some are quantitative. How should these be documented? - I was on leave for most of last week, so *my* report would be skimpy. How would you annotate that?

I believe my work this week will be documented as “suck it assclown.” No really, people have *actual* work to do. More so now that you indiscriminately (and likely illegally) fired a bunch of people. So let’s waste more time writing “what I did on my summer vacation” reports.

Take it from a member of the federal bureaucracy...you can always slow things down. But knowing you have a legal foot to stand on really helps one develop a backbone.

You may not be the right person to ask, but could a federal worker legitimately refuse to do something as an unlawful order once a court issues an injunction? It might not save them from being put on admin leave, but it does give the federal workers a bit of a leg to stand on...

That doesn’t mean that they have to comply in fact, or forever. Tell the DOJ that you’ll comply, and then oops the website was reload from an old backup, how’d all this gay stuff get there. The staff just have to conveniently forget to follow these new rules. I forgot is a great defense.

The NCMEC are not cowards. The staff see things on a daily basis would send most people (including me) into a suicidal tailspin. The DOJ mandate is horrific, but the prospect of NCMEC closing is infinitely more so. They’re trying to survive until things get better. The job is too important.

Require documentation of how the data will be transported, as well as all accreditations for transport methods. Ultimately, your data’s security is up to you and your agency. Make sure all proper procedures are followed. And where policies don’t exist, write them. @nycsouthpaw.bsky.social

Require rosters of who will have data access, with enough information to check the clearance level of each one. Require all those people to sign NDAs. Require a detailed justification for access to the data, as well as a detailed description of how the data will be used

For those in federal service: does your agency/office have a data access and dissemination policy? What happens if someone comes in and asks for full access to your unique data source? If you’re not sure, then you have work to do tomorrow. @jamellebouie.net @dburbach.bsky.social

There’s a solid answer, if not a good one. Military helos in the area are used for “continuity of government,” or getting senior officials out of DC in the event of a crisis. So the copters have to train over the Potomac. Though why they can’t do it during the hours DCA is closed, I don’t know.

I’m not Christian; growing up in the South burned any drive towards that out of me. But if I do have religious inklings, it’s towards humanist and empathetic teachings like these. This empathy comes out in your lyrics too; one reason I love them so much. Thanks John.

It has *a lot* of inertia, if someone makes it to the top of the Pentagon bureaucratic morass, they have damn good skills. Things will be stable-ish there, but if the Joint Chiefs and Combatant Commanders are sacked and the President starts handpicking promotions, THATS when things get bad.

PhoneCommander @phonecommander.bsky.social · 30/01/2025

Your points about incompetence and the destruction of the federal bureaucracy are right on. The military angle is not…for now. There hasn’t been any changes to military deployments (that I know of) and chains of command remain very much intact…for now.
