Hey, here's a random thought: maybe all of us who are Democrats and progressives should pause attacks on each other for the next three weeks and focus on beating Republicans. I promise our arguments will be so much more interesting in January after a blue tsunami.

There’s a term for Trump’s bullying, often racist sneers and attacks, accompanied by indirect (always indirect) calls to violence: stochastic terrorism, defined as hostile rhetoric that raises the statistical risk of ideological violence. Here’s how it works:

On the other hand, while Steinbeck is not my most favorite author, his prose is more than just of its time. His writing is luminous, even poetic at times, and one of the reasons his novels of social justice and criticism remain relevant and popular is that they’re not just journalism, they’re art.

Earlier this year I watched the entire run of “The Closer,” which I had not done before. Excellent show, great writing, ensemble acting that really makes you care about the characters. Now I am re-watching the entire run of “Major Crimes,” with most of the same characters and even better writing.

I like to make the cover art of any given book into a thematic piece. This book is on the theme of cosmic humanity, with a queer-mystical bent. I made this to be donated, but may repeat the idea again later.

This book is five signatures of high-quality speckled paper, kettle stitched, with casebound covers featuring, as I said, my own artwork. I am making a lot of books like this, lately, it’s become a project that I find both satisfying and surprisingly meditative and soothing.

I made this handmade blank book as a donation. The covers are my own original Photoshop artwork made from my own digital photography. I do a lot of photography intended to be both pure photography and also used as art elements in other digital artwork. 🧵

I got fed up with pro sports decades ago when the baseball players went on strike. They were millionaires striking to become double millionaires. I’ll watch town softball and college sports if I watch anything, but I’m tired of sports culture as a whole. I give it no attention. It’s a toxic circus.

Two pieces of mine (lower left frame box) are in a gallery show this month for the annual Wisconsin Regional Art Project. The opening reception this evening was great. I had two conversations with fellow artists, which I appreciate. My piece “Shadow,” people related to as a portrait of depression.

So far for this new artist book, Sauvage, which began as a test of watercolor on paper, I have looked at “Sauvage” from the perspective of colonialism, Rimbaud’s poetry, and amour fou (queer love). Now I find myself writing a long poem on being a feral summer boy in English, French, and Indonesian.

Sir Ian McKellen orates 'The Stranger's Case' from 'Sir Thomas More' by Shakespeare about the Evil May Day xenophobic riot of 1517 in London. This passage was written 400 years ago, but times never change. Humanity refuses to change its unwarranted bias against 'others'.

I've heard people make claims that AI would lead to a new Renaissance, but I didn't imagine it'd happen like this:
Screenshot of a Tweet from Pope Leo XIV. It reads:

"In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgen to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity."

Why do people set reading goals for the month/year? I mean, I understand that they want to read more, and announcing it to the world might be about asking for accountability. But I’ve never understood setting a goal. I just read all the time, daily, because I want to. I never stop. It’s continuous.

Today's jobs report is a reminder that tax cuts for corporations and the rich don’t create jobs or grow the economy. What's required is investment in working people — and better wages. When workers have money to spend, the economy grows and businesses create more jobs. Remember this.
