The other party on the right is OneBC. It started in 2025 when a newly-elected Conservative member was expelled for racist comments, and she and a colleague split off and made their own party. Later in the year, OneBC removed her as leader, then some of them reinstated her.

The BC Cons haven't had a chance to call a leadership vote yet, so they have an interim leader, Lorne Doerkson. He's got some experience -- started out in 2020 as a BC Lib (BC United), then was one of the group that joined the Conservatives after the 2024 debacle.

Meanwhile, things were getting rough with the BC Conservatives. They got a new leader, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, earlier this year. But there were some major disagreements and almost a third of their elected members left or were booted out. Findlay stepped down as leader on the weekend.

Falcon refused to resign. Some of the BC United people decided to form a new party, CentreBC. The last time I checked, Falcon is still the leader of BC United, though I don't think there's any activity there.

BC Libs were more to the right than the federal Liberals. They formed government in the early 2000s and ruled for a decade and a half. Things didn't go well -- they had leadership changes and changed their name to BC United in 2023, probably trying to distance themselves from Trudeau and Co.

So we have a couple of new political parties, both on the right. If the non-BC people are wondering what's going on, here's some background. When I got here in the early 90s, the Social Credit party (Socreds) was collapsing and a lot of supporters and former officials joined the BC Liberals.

A bunch of the folks kicked out of the Conservatives and former BC United are their own party, OneBC is kicking around somewhere, a few have joined the NDP...

One of the rounds of disaffection resulted in Rustad being ousted as leader, though he stayed in the party. More recently, Findlay became leader and even more resignations and oysters followed, including Rustad kicked out of a second party in five years!

Rustad eventually joined and then became leader of the B.C. Conservatives, a part that hadn't really been a factor ... No MLAs, no party status. But since he was a sitting MLA, it raised the party profile. And it came as anti-Trudeau sentiment was soaring....

Here's the tl;dr for those not following along: for a good couple of decades there were two major parties who were competive for forming government in B.C.: the Liberals (not associated with the federal party) and the NDP (associated with the federal party but not necessarily tied to all policies)
