I just watched the first episode of Colombo with my husband and one of Colombo's gotchas, one of his "no sane innocent man would ever do this"s, is "Why, when you were at your vacation home four hours out of the city and got a call that there was an emergency at home, why did you drive back and […]

Spent the morning washing and sealing the driveway... up to the pile of bricks and rubble at least (note to self, order a skip). It'll be interesting to see what it looks like in a couple of hours.

Drive washed (yes it was filthy), tried to unblock the kitchen drain - the power washer didn't do it, I reckon there's a fatberg half way down the pipe. Threw some drain cleaner down it but there's probably between Buckley's and no chance that'll do anything...

An entire slide on "this is why trying to use Claude to reverse-engineer a softmodem blob and reconstruct the source was a bad idea". And that's down from three. And that's cut down because I'm supposed to be talking about softmodems instead of ranting.

Help, I've discovered how easy it is to recreate the Lambie-Nairn BBC idents and I think there's a nonzero chance I'll be buying a high-speed camera, some powder-paint and a plasma-cut steel fox silhouette. This is DANGEROUS TERRITORY.

Has anyone seen this funky power cable Belkin uses? I can only find ones like the first picture, but the 2nd picture is what I'm trying to find. No filled space in between the 2 prongs, and (optionally) keyed. I can trim the left to the right but, ick. #AskFedi
Standard US AC 2-prong rounded-barrel cable, with the somewhat "figure 8" shape.A similar looking 2-prong connector on a locking-in power connector, but it's 2 completely separated power connector barrels rather than the figure 8, and there's tabs that stick straight out from them towards the device when inserted.

The danger of having self-hosting infra is you see someone's cool app and think "ooh it's just a docker container, I'll install that" and before long you have a mountain of containers.

The more I play with this idea of a Verilog reimplementation of an Inmos T425 #transputer, the more I realise I'm just restating the microcode in different syntax. With that said, it's made it easier to change the microsequencer and play with FPGA DSP blocks and barrel shifters. If you're […]

To get a patch into the kernel, I've had to install a local copy of their Sashiko "agentic review" tool, burn tokens on an AI provider, and cross fingers that the provider they're using makes the same choices. I can imagine a lot of people would have given up at "patch v9" or earlier.
