@aarbrk @mrundkvist If it's Linux with FDE, you can just mount it with the LUKS tools. Just need the password. Good chance it'll just boot if you put it into a working machine.

I'm rewatching the Alec Steele "bog iron" video and the only thing on my mind is - how did someone figure out that building a furnace and burning a random-ish brown dust with charcoal produces iron? Wild stuff.

@sborrill That's the most visible part, but if you look at the forums - even the Bitshifters folks have started spewing out "entirely AI written" demos, games.., there's others who've posted disassemblies of Acorn stuff and only admitted they were AI slop when people pointed out they didn't […]

When faced with a bully, your average English person will capitulate, victim-blame and make excuses - because the bully might be chasing off all the nice people, but "at least I wasn't rude to him!"

Humans build things and care for each other. This is what we evolved to do. It's something we're driven biologically to do, and we feel bad when we don't do it. That bad feeling is every ancestor who survived through mutual aid burying every ancestor who died from competition. We build commons […]

I'd love to see someone bolt a WIMP HLE onto Riscose and do a RISC OS + Linux hybrid which can run all the 26 and 32bit code - but instead it's disgracefully and narcissistically stealing others' work, and using an unsupervised stochastic parrot to do an "arm64" rewrite on the kernel... If any of them gave a shit, they'd have realised that the thing that put the nail in the coffin of 32bit RO5 was a lack of developers - and the number's only gotten smaller. Instead they hounded a bunch of developers out and threw their code into a plagiarism machine, releasing pay-for knockoffs […]

@darkrat I guess you're a few versions behind? I installed 19.5 and it had a sidebar pimping the AI features, which collapses down but can't be removed. there's a "hide" option in the UI, but only if you have a paid subscription. which you uh, also need to use the feature.

Little except that the "firmware" it loads off the platters is an overlay which patches the boot ROM. Twice. There's a second-stage bootloader and a main program. Nutters. The MXT firmware was sane compared to this. I might have to desolder a processor and figure out a way to dump it.
