And remember, all of this is happening amid the AI buildout. AI, which is not a coherent set of products and services, but rather a commercial and political project, can be understood as a full-spectrum class-war offensive. An offensive waged by one industry, which put their guy Vance in the WH.

People talk about AI not turning a profit and how it's a massive bubble—they're not wrong. But remember when Uber was willing to take tremendous losses FOR YEARS to engineer dependence and bleed out the competition?

AI is basically that for the whole economy and the workings of government. It's a bleed-out of current conditions. Not all of these companies are going to make it, but the billionaires are counting on a situation in which existing social relations can no longer be reproduced. A re-ordering.

You may have found an especially bad Olive Garden, or you have never been to Chili's or TGI Fridays (is it even still in business?) There are plenty of chains that are decent to good - I am partial to BJ's Brewhouse and Wood Ranch BBQ.

One of the most memorable meals of my life was pasta with saffron and black pepper at a hole in the wall in Rome. I did not have a corporate card at that time. That same trip I had incredible pork ribs at a place near the Charles River in Prague. I'm not buying money as a barrier.

An echo chamber of bad taste. As long as the restaurants remain open, I can enjoy them in the absence loud American tourists. Or at least as the only loud American tourist.

Same, and I'll add that my kids loved the pasta I brought back. It's not an American thing, it's a lame person thing. I've heard people in the UK rag on Mexican food they had in LA. Their problem.

Physicists have been using neural nets for a longtime. We tried to use one for triggering decisions on a high energy experiment in the 90s. It was slower than programming FPGAs. These models are nothing special. Just big neural nets trained on a huge amount of uncurated data.

Not yet. Thankfully, I haven't had a work trip that was more than a week in a long time. The laundry in Argentina was great. It wasn't coin operated, they took my bag of laundry and returned it clean and neatly folded. That was a trip for fun, not work.

Pack 1 week of clothes into a carry-on and do laundry on the weekend if it's more than a 1 week trip. Yes, they have laundromats in other countries.

The ratio of F to C makes it a lot more reasonable to be classed as a PFAS than say, a 400 Dalton drug molecule with a single CF3 group.

Erika Ishii's inclusion is not a "controversial announcement". This is elevating weird gamergaters' boring whining as deserving of attention. There's no "sides" to this, there's no "issue": It's a talented performer who's done nothing wrong being hated for who they are.
