I was in the library the other day & just thinking what an amazing service it is. A place that you can borrow books, films & CDs, read newspapers, sit in the warmth, hang out with your friends & use the computer/Internet, all entirely for free. Support your library! You can do this just by using it.

We’re currently singing this in my queer choir. Every time we do, I think of my beautiful community of trans siblings & the fight we’re in together. “I know what you must be thinking: That we are powerless to change things, But don’t give up, ’Cause we’ve got love.” www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4XZ...

Also, during a sexual assault people often freeze and can’t say / do anything at all. Questions like “did you say no? Did you scream? Did you try and push them off?“ are all completely inappropriate questions in the context.

I don’t know why sexual consent is based around saying no. Doesn’t work like that in any other area. Everywhere else, you need an explicit YES.

Railway workers report the signal box at Lugford as haunted. Talk of a constant presence, of being scrutinised as they work. Talk of objects being moved, levers being pulled. Odd voices down the line. A place not haunted by dread, but by unwelcome intrusion. – #CJosiffe #Ghosts

Forbidden Colours’ Hate Review specifically highlights the Supreme Court ruling and Code of Practice as reflecting the coordinated anti-gender movement in the UK. www.forbidden-colours.com/hate-review/ www.forbidden-colours.com/hate-review/... [Alt text continues on next post]
UNITED KINGDOM
CURRENT LANDSCAPE
The United Kingdom has achieved significant legal progress on the rights of LGBTIQ+ people over the period but is now marked by acute and accelerating pressure specifically on the rights of trans people. Abortion is legal under the Abortion Act 1967 and was decriminalised for women in England and Wales in 2025, though anti-abortion organisations remain well-organised and buffer zones for women accessing abortion services only came into force in October 2024. Same-sex marriage has been legal since 2014 in England, Wales and Scotland, and since 2020 in Northern Ireland, granting full family rights. Legal gender recognition remains medicalised under the Gender Recognition Act 2004, reform has been blocked at both Westminster and Holyrood, and the UK Supreme Court's April 2025 ruling that "sex" in the Equality Act refers to "biological sex" has further narrowed the practical protections available to trans people. There are no specific legal protections for intersex individuals. In education, revised statutory guidance introduced in July 2025 frames gender identity as a matter of "significant debate".
The trajectory of anti-gender activity in the UK over the last decades has moved through three broad phases.
In the early 2000s, the movement was led by religious institutions and Conservative politicians mobilising against the repeal of Section 28 and, a decade later, against equal marriage - deploying faith networks. obstruction in the House of Lords and mass petition campaigns. From 2017, a new and distinctly British phenomenon emerged: a well-resourced so-called "gender critical" movement, framing opposition to trans inclusion not as religious conservatism but as feminist detence of women's so-called "sex-based rights, giving the anti-gender movement mainstream respectability and media embedding it had previously lacked
- later medicalised through the 2024 Cass Review and exported internationally.

I definitely think it was a very positive and productive event. Lots of MPs came down to the lobby to show their support and listen directly to trans people. It all helps build alliances and people are aware of the issues and willing to speak up in Parliament.

From the early 2020s, these strands converged with far-right street mobilisation, US-linked litigation strategies and an increasingly sympathetic Conservative government, producing the most consequential phase of anti-gender activity in the UK's recent history - culminating in the Supreme Court's 2025 ruling. Throughout, the UK has functioned as an international reference point for the transnational anti-gender movement, its legal strategies. organisations and individual cases regularly amplitied across European and US conservative networks.

SHORT-TERM OUTLOOK
The United Kingdom is entering a period of consolidation for the anti-gender movement. The Supreme Court's April 2025 ruling in For Women Scotland has fundamentally shifted the legal terrain, and so-called "gender critical" organisations are well-positioned to use litigation to extend its effects into healthcare, prisons, sport and schools. On trans healthcare and education, the current Labour government shows no sign of reversing course: the indefinite puberty blocker ban, the RSHE guidance and the forthcoming KCSIE framework all signal absorption of key so-called "gender critical" positions as
policy. I he conversion practices ban, promised since 2018, remains uncertain in its trans-inclusive form under sustained lobbying from religious and so-called "gender critical' organisations.
The most significant medium-term risk comes from the electoral trajectory of Reform UK, whose demonstrated willingness to use executive power against LGBTIQ+ visibility at local level.
, and continued rise in national opinion polls
beyond the local level.

Horrendously, when I was training as a clinical psychologist (early 2000s) we literally somehow thought ADHD only applied to children. WTF?? What did we think happened to these children when they turned 18? We had it so wrong, I’m sorry.

Preordering is the best! 1. You get a nice surprise when it arrives because you forgot you ordered it. 2. Pre-orders create “buzz“ for authors and really help boost their overall sales and the amount of marketing support they get from their publisher.
