I’m pretty sure that’s because it was - it was a very last minute announcement. I just think that if all we do is criticise, we risk a result of “well no one likes it so let’s not bother” rather than “we’ve got something we can build on”. I want to see it improve, not disappear.

I reckon people need to reserve judgement a bit. Hopefully next year, with more time to plan, perhaps a co-presenter to give Rebecca someone to actually interact with, and TDFF coverage too 🤞🏻 it’ll be much improved. And if not - I’ll still be grateful someone stepped on to keep the TDF free to air.

I think people need to be a bit more forgiving of C5. You can’t compare something that was polished over 20+ years with something that was a hasty last minute addition and thank goodness it was. Even over the 3 weeks they added and tweaked - give them a chance.

Great day out riding the Voie Vert from Saint Gervais les Bains to Geneva to watch the Femmes #Tdff Didn’t even try to take a photo of the actual sprint, so there’s a photo of the first gruppetto instead.

Information board for the VoieVerte. It’s in French, so I’m not going to try and translate it. The cycling and walking route runs from Chamonix to Geneva and is almost entirely traffic free

Much needed beer and a side of the best combination in the world: chocolate ice cream and raspberry sorbet.

You (we) may be in the minority but we’re not alone. Yes it’s incredible, which increasingly has its own issues. But incredible can co-exist with “where did any suspense/underdog/big breakout win/any narrative other than one team” go? It leaves me a little bit colder with every race.

Hahaha! I’ve done it a few times now. The first year I was sooo scared and obsessed about every detail. The third year we entered 30mins before entries closed the night before, with a trip to Decathlon required 😂 The first year I rode coincided with the first women’s race.

A Paris Roubaix sportive commemorative cobble stone. The date coincides with the date of the first women’s edition.

My plan was to get an official souvenir to commemorate the milestone of the professional women finally being able to do what the sportive had allowed any old woman to do for years. Reader, if you know ASO, it will not surprise you that there were no such souvenirs available.

The first edition was won by Lizzie Deignan. The base of the sportive cobble now bears her signature. I treasure and am depressed by this most wonderful thing in equal measure! Recognise women’s sports!!

Oh and do the sportive the day before! (Take this advice with the caution you desire - I have a slightly deranged obsession with the cobbles 🤪)

If you want to go dashing there are strategies aplenty on t’web! I’d have said Arenberg was a solid contender for best men’s experience, but that was when the women raced the day before. Now that’s changed, I’d probably do Mons en Pevele or Carrefour de l’Arbre if I wanted a ‘big’ sector.

Decide what kind of experience you want. I’ve been a few times now - years we tried to see multiple sectors were fun but very stressful. Since we’ve just picked a sector and enjoyed the atmosphere. The velodrome is awesome but also fuels cobble FOMO if it’s the only place you go.

Totally agree that stage 2 is the stage and stage 1 is not so exciting. Given the history of nodding to various significant cycling protagonists when routing Tour stages, I was quite surprised to see it head off south rather than coming through Otley to start with.

Whoop congratulations! Did you enjoy it? It’s my favourite sportive of all time and the only good reason* I can think of having the women’s race on Sunday, so the cut off times get friendlier again for the long route. I haven’t done it for years and I miss it!! *not really a good reason at all…
