In New Jersey Cumberland County now controls the East Point Lighthouse and plans to reopen it, but the Maurice River Historical Society, which saved and restored the lighthouse and has 27 years experience managing it, has not been asked to help. This makes no sense. www.nj.com/cumberland/2...

Beloved N.J. lighthouse is finally reopening — but the people who rescued it won’t be there
The historic lighthouse will reopen under a new state agreement, sidelining a volunteer group that spent decades restoring and operating the historic landmark.

A couple of years back, the Hookland Tourist Board did a promotion about how many haunted lighthouses the county has. Of course our lighthouses are haunted, so would you be if you'd seen the things they've seen. Not just ghost ships, but the dark mysteries the sea holds. – Ray Salter #VOH

A 113' (~35m) granite tower first lit in 1905, it originally hosted a 1st-order #Fresnel lens, replaced by a modern optic when the lighthouse was automated and destaffed in 1976. In 2012 the light was declared surplus and is now in private hands. www.lighthousefriends.com/light.asp?ID... 🧵 2/2

⭐The image that started a movement: Claude Monet "Impression Sunrise" (1874) oil on canvas | 48 × 63 cm (19 × 25 in). Musée Marmottan Monet, Paris, France #ArtSky #Monet #Impressionism
"Impression, Sunrise" (Impression, soleil levant), an iconic 1872 oil painting by French artist Claude Monet. Depicting the harbor of Le Havre, this historic work inspired the name of the Impressionist movement.

The masterpiece depicts the harbor of Le Havre, Monet's hometown, shrouded in a hazy morning mist. It is famously credited with giving rise to the name of the entire Impressionist art movement. After art critic Louis Leroy derisively used the term "Impressionistic" in a review of the painting's 1874 debut exhibition, the group of artists proudly adopted it as their moniker.
The original painting resides permanently at the Musée Marmottan Monet in Paris, France.
