It'll never not be funny to me that Sony is clearly unable to get into Nozomi Entertainment's YouTube channel, given that they have been unable to update it and take down stuff that the licenses clearly expired on.

Excellent alternative for artists when they can't find S.H. Figuarts Body-Kun Sports Edition and need to blend in with the Pekoponians.

I think Hyakkano isn't going to be able to maintain its momentum and fall in quality, not because it got stale, but because it's going to be a goddamn miracle for Nakamura and Nozawa to balance 60+ characters in 20 page weekly chapters. The 101 is guaranteed to be a nightmare.

OK, if they want to be so fucking precious about the Japanese titles, they can refer to every light-novel and its adaptation by its full, proper Japanese title. No nicknames, no portmanteaus. That'll cure this delusion real quick.

As a kid, I was very much a dub-only guy. As I grew, I got into a lot of subbed stuff too. So my takeaway? People in both camps can be awful. It comes down to just not being a jerk over preferences, and explaining things when someone doesn't know a character or series by the same name you do.

Honestly, I've just reached a point where there's just too much awful, real world harm to be disgusted by for me to ever get more than minorly annoyed by stuff like that, outside of instances of someone just being a real pedantic elitist about it - and again, I've seen it come from both sides.

Phantomcellistf @phantomcellistf.bsky.social · 29/09/2026

Both sides of this argument really only work for popular, well known titles.

I can't decide if I like Sukeban Honey or Cutie Thunder Liger better. The wrestler gimmick Honey is paying tribute to was based off of an anime creation by Go Nagai. Jushin Thunder Liger ended up having a legendary career, well known to wrestling fans all over the world.

Still, it's an incredible film. It's cringy in the best ways. The comedy is so well paced, and parents (or Filipinos), are going to have to sit down their children (or white friends) and explain what the hell just happened.

I just still feel like the creators had to pull their punches for the sake of the PG rating, and it all came out as a movie that honestly could have been punched up to PG-13 so that there could be a bit more viscera, but also be keyed better to two teens facing their transition to adulthood.

That is to say, the manananggal is terrifying and the children in the theater absolutely got traumatized for life. My gf, who is Filipino, noted: "yeah, that's Filipino culture: traumatize your children with the lesson of, "be good or you will be ripped asunder by the manananggal," which is fair.

I think one of the biggest challenges to "Forgotten Island" is that it's a movie that's incredibly well done, combining both Filipino culture and and a genuinely fun adventure that reminds you of the Hangover, but then you remember this movie is PG, and you have to ask: who is this movie for?

Y’all! I need you to take time to see Forgotten Island in theaters. This is Studio Ghibli meets The Hangover with Filipino mythology. I had the most amazing time in the theater! If we want Hollywood to green light more projects like this we gotta keep supporting it! Tayo na!
