I figured we were, or would get there. I am a fan of your content, so that's why I asked about sustainable/synthetic fuels :D As someone who shows interest in older design and quality, I thought "classic" cars might overlap into that, and keeping them on the road with alternate fuels.

Because it's our family car, and EV infrastructure outside of urban/suburban areas in Ontario is extremely limited, and we like to go to those more remote places frequently. The hybrid is a good balance/trade off (coming from an Odyssey lease).

If we can't be pedantic in our opinions of things, then discussion dies, no? And I agree that my sticking point is mostly with interior design/ergo of cars rather than dislike of screens. I'm not saying NO SCREENS, but rather integrate them well rather than just bolting it to the dash.

I understand that affordability/cost cutting is a big reason why EVs and other modern vehicles are removing tried and true buttons and switches with screens/haptics. Especially with cars being SO EXPENSIVE now, so yeah ... just an old man yelling at the clouds.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are great replacements for first party nav/music (especially if they come with subscriptions!). However, the software isn't the only reason why the "replace everything with screens" designs look ancient after 3-5 years. It's mainly the ergonomics of everything else.

One of my biggest "hate" (I'd rather use dislike) for screens is that in 3-5 years they tend to look dated and operate slowly/clunky. Hence why we are leasing rather than owning.

Yeah, our "family car" is a leased CRV hybrid and while it has a lot of bells and whistles, I think Honda does a good job minimizing the "appliance" feel of so many EVs and still using 30+ years of interior ergonomic design to make driving still engaging.

It's not just an engine/drivetrain thing for me though (I understand this is moving the goal posts somewhat), but also everything built around the engine in EVs is very ... well shit. I don't want huge screens and self driving tech. I want to drive my car and feel connected because I like driving.

I also want my car to be much less like a smartphone and have actual tactile controls. I understand this is "old man yelling at the clouds" energy, but I'm passionate about driving and like things to be very "manual". A car is more than an appliance to me /shrug.

Agreed, especially where I live (southern Ontario) where the infrastructure is already really good and our electricity is already quite clean (mostly hydro). However, as a car enthusiast, I think there is something to repairing and maintaining existing cars rather than tossing them in favour of EVs

Thoughts on synthetic/sustainable fuels? I know it's still lighting stuff on fire, but reuse in infrastructure/technology might be the better way to go over "burning" resources to replace the whole system?

Minority governments only "work" when the parties don't just obstruct for the sake of obstruction (CPC), and actually make concessions to get concessions. When the party leaders blocks their members from working with other parties to actually govern, I don't blame those members for floor crossing.

You'll get answers to some questions, sprinkled throughout, but get comfortable not knowing everything. It's almost the opposite of Sanderson's cosmere world. It is very rewarding though, and Erickson trusts their reader more than most authors (no shade on others). Enjoy!
