Pete’s made one of the smoothest flowing yet weirdest shedding games I’ve had the pleasure of playing. Highly recommend you pick it up when this launches.

Probably no genre has shaped my design practice more than old school economic games. There's nothing like a no holds barred fight in a spreadsheet! Come listen to Pete and I as we try to figure out what makes them so compelling and talk about their relationship to An Infamous Traffic.

Talking with Cole makes me excited about playing and making games. Also I’m still thinking about that play I had of the new Traffic at HistCon. The folks at @wehrlegig.games have made their most immediate and accessible game yet but it has all the sharp edges of a good business game.

Instantly backed this. The version I played at HistCon North this summer was excellent and apparently it continues to be improved by the team. We'll have episode of @decisionspace.bsky.social tomorrow with @colewehrle.bsky.social talking about the economic/business game heritage of this one.

I just wrote a three page design diary for a game I haven't made yet. Anyone else ever do this? I find writing helps to clarify an idea for me.

In today's diary, I get into one of my favorite subjects: agency in historical games. Did the Opium Wars have to happen? Were the player's historical counterparts in a position to prevent them? It's a big subject, and a place where the 2e differs sharply from 1e. boardgamegeek.com/thread/37746...

I think figuring out how to make a hybrid market for tabletop games is something designers have attempted in different ways. However, it may work better for heavier games like Imperium / Captain's Chair. It's fun to think about reversing your GDC talk for this project.

Pete @petewiss.bsky.social · 16/09/2026
I can teach this game quicker than almost any Euro game because the complexity doesn't come from an elaborate resource optimization puzzle. The "heaviness" is mostly about how to respond to the player driven economic ecosystem that is created through play.

The new @decisionspace.bsky.social is a deep dive on my favorite "new to me" game of 2026. I've played Indonesia over 20 times this year and I'm still not bored of it. It has everything I want in a "big" game: slim rules, high interaction, and dramatic swings. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/o...

Pete @petewiss.bsky.social · 14/09/2026
I played this back to back at Gen Con and had super inconsistent experiences across the two games. It was obvious who at least some of the aliens were and there wasn't much they could do about it. Very group / draw dependent, but occasionally also VERY funny.

Pete @petewiss.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
Oh it’s certainly not as fun as either of those things, but the tactility of a heavy metal coin and the sound of it being flipped has some untapped tabletop potential.

Pete @petewiss.bsky.social · 13/09/2026
I actually want to make a push your luck engine building game with coin flipping as a central mechanism. (Inspired by QUp)

I would find this game boring with the same mechanisms if it was about building skyscrapers or something. The theme gives meaning to my decisions here and is the only thing that made it fun and exciting for me.

The best one was you got bonus points for making a completely off trend "cult" anime and mine was a sci fi slice of life story on a space station where the main character used a virtual world avatar to grieve for the loss of a family member. So evocative!

Played Jisogi last night and had a great time but man it was totally sold by its theming. I had way more fun describing the “gore fantasy” or “detective sci fi” anime I was creating with the story prompts than doing the euro optimization puzzle thing.

Watching @itsquinns.bsky.social chat with Brennan Lee Mulligan on Adventure Academy was such a treat. Like the @ecfriedman.com episode, it's great to hear people talk so eloquently about games on a large platform. I've been a fan of Quinns for so long and it was surreal to see him on my TV.

My pal @tricktaking.bsky.social made the most bonkers deckbuilding trick-taking game. It is SO MUCH my kinda thing and I can't wait for this one to get out there. This is the sort of mad scientist style of trick-taker that just flips the genre on its head. www.kickstarter.com/projects/ins...

I played the video game Dispatch over the 3 day weekend and was impressed. It was written, directed, and performed better than most superhero movies or TV shows that I've seen. The actual "gameplay" was serviceable. I don't normally care about narrative games but this was too engaging to put down.

For me the juice is worth the squeeze with the reputation track, but I was a big fan of the original before the new edition. I also think the variable effects of the loot tokens is a nice addition to the new game.
