Today, I learned that my history of pain theories paper has hit 1000 citations. This was a genuine labour of love - and I'm so delighted (and grateful) to see that so many people read it, and then cited it! I know 1000 isn't a lot for many on here, but I am very proud of this achievement.
Screenshot of Google Scholar showing that a publication by Moayedi and Davis titled "Theories of pain: from specificity to gate control" was cited 1000 times.

Our study of people’s worst pain episodes has just been published and is Open Access. The findings are incredibly sad and support the expansion of traditional understandings of suffering. @virginiamci.bsky.social @keithmeldrum.bsky.social @gabriellepage.bsky.social www.jpain.org/article/S152...

@peterstilwell.bsky.social argues that qualitative methods are needed to really understand how pain and suffering affects the person. He uses phenomenological approaches to explore the question. @canadianpain.bsky.social ASM 2025

"[B]y framing the question in terms of “body vs. mind” or “physical vs. psychological” we risk falling into a misleading dualism. [...] Pain... challenges us to think beyond the body vs. mind and physical vs. psychological, showing instead how deeply intertwined these realms are." Interesting!

It has been great writing this piece with @peterstilwell.bsky.social about the mind-body divide and why it is often misleading to speak of 'physical' vs. 'psychological' pain.
