"Out of Focus" The aftermath of a weekend-induced moment of questionable judgment, on a sunny Saturday morning.
A sunny morning in the countryside.
With an apparently abandoned silver-gray Ford Focus, inconvenienty parked in a roadside ditch.

1. For #Caturday, let me introduce you to Leo, my late mother's loving, sweet, skittish, blue-eyed, cross-eyed, wonky-eared, mixed cuddle bug #ca that she found as a feral kitten & adopted. I need to find him a good Houston home w/o dogs & preferably where he'll be pampered as a sole 😺. 1/2 #Cats

Following up on this, I wrote a blog post to explain to regular non-nerd users how you can easily flag an email as unsafe (phishing or otherwise malicious). You can read it here: peterhuppertz.net/english/is-t... Feel free to share this if you think it's useful.

My neighbour had his Paypal account hacked via phishing, to the tune of €500. I sleuthed a bit, reported the offending email with all relevant details, and raised a dispute, containing all information. This morning, my neighbour told me that Paypal reversed the transaction. I admit it: I'm proud. 😎

Loose thought: Polarisation is best prevented by seeking connection. But if you only seek connection with people who agree with you, it's called 'a bubble'. "If you want to make peace, you don't talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies." (Moshe Dayan)

Loose thoughts on AI (and Quality): Dynamic Quality, such as described in Pirsig's book Lila (but already foreshadowed in ZAMM, and before that, hinted at by Henri Bergsson), is completely out of reach of AI, because it's pre-intellectual, and intuitive. For AI, that's out of scope.

Loose observations on AI: REAL intelligence isn’t just the ability to produce correct answers. It’s the ability to ask the right questions -- and the ability to care about whether the answers are correct.

I lost one of my favourite watches again today. My second grandson turned 18.

Friday, we had what, for us, was a novelty. We are on a dynamic contract, which means that the price of electricity varies with the demand and supply. Sometimes, supply exceeds demand, and then you get money to consume electricity.
A table showing that we got paid €3.99 to use 13 kWh of electricity, and an additional 59 cents by supplying back to the grid from the home battery

A moment of insight. To me, music isn't an object. It's a state. I don't listen wit my brain, I listen with my nervous system. I feel a melodic line before I understand it, I feel a harmonic colour before I can name it. 1/2

One of the late Richard Thompson's brilliant cartoons www.gocomics.com/richards-poo...
Hand‑drawn humorous March calendar from ‘Richard’s Poor Almanac.’ A large lion appears at the top and a small lamb at the bottom to illustrate the ‘in like a lion, out like a lamb’ saying. The calendar grid contains many joke holidays and repeated ‘power outage’ entries. The overall style is whimsical and cartoonish.
