A London Underground worker was cleaning the Tube, disturbing asbestos for 15 months with no mask, 19 months before asbestos training. "The dust used to get dumped on the track. I saw it happening. And when the train goes by – boof – everyone is breathing that shit in." He got fired for anxiety.

Ontario had some of the worst air quality in the world due to wildfires. The northeast USA is chocking on the smoke. But both Canada and the USA are some of the world’s worst offenders for carbon emissions. Toxic air is a consequence of flying, eating meat, and high carbon lifestyles.

When I lived in Beijing, Bluair was the dominant brand but it priced so many people out. The start-up @smartairuk.bsky.social showed you can make significant improvements to AQ by simply strapping a HEPA to a desk fan. They since made a B-Corp to make low cost units.

3/ When wildfire smoke occurs during heatwaves in areas where a portion of the population doesn't have access to air conditioning, people face the dilemma of opening their windows to avoid heatstroke, but searing their lungs with smoke. Smoke + heat can become even deadlier than either alone.
