Why would a speed detection camera be called ‘notorious’ by a journalist? Speed cameras are a fact of life so the smart driver response is to read the road because there are speed limits nationwide & locations posted at garda.ie. Media need to stop pandering to ‘hard-pressed’ drivers.

It was great to listen to @tomflood.bsky.social ‘s talk on communications and road safety in TCD last night. And I have a letter in the Irish Times today which shines a light on how careless driving is just kinda accepted.

Letter to the THE IRISH TIMES.
Sir, - Seán Canney, the Minister of State with responsibility for road safety, stated at an informal meeting of EU transport ministers in Dublin Castle on Monday that "99 per cent of the people on the roads drive with due care".
May I ask where these roads are? Because they sound idyllic - perfect for cycling my primary-school children to school.
In contrast, on our 2km commute this morning, I counted 11 cars in the bus lane, seven drivers looking at their phones in traffic, one woman putting on her make-up and another eating her breakfast. And at least five drivers speeding at least 20km/h or more over the speed limit. - Yours, etc,

As you may have heard by now, the amazing @tomflood.bsky.social is in town next week and we are going to have a special edition of our Bike Bop on the afternoon of Wednesday 23rd Sept. Gather at Unit 18, Macken St at 3pm for a leisurely bike ride around the city finishing at 4pm at Capel Street

I started my car lite journey by replacing one local car trip per week with my bike. I now hardly ever drive, because it’s also healthy and enjoyable and I feel so much more connected to my community. I wish I could go totally car free, but there are still occasional times I need to drive.

On the bike path from the playground, my almost 5 yr old granddaughter enjoyed a 5 minute conversation with a 20-something female cyclist. What a sweet conversation about cycling, joining her JR mtn biking team, bike safety, & just lovely positive exchanges. Pedal bike next spring! #cycling #kids

New Jersey roads: Year on year fatalities are reported to have fallen by 8.5% However, 2026 cyclist and pedestrian deaths currently aggregate to the same as 2025 which means the %age of VRU deaths is now running at 32% of the total 1 in 3 NJ deaths on the road is either a cyclist or pedestrian
